Jund does it again! Yes folks, the Shards of Alara plane continues to dominate the Standard metagame with the recent top finish at Star City Games $5000 Open event in Richmond, Virginia. The pilot was Alex Bertoncini which had previous top finishes in the previous SCG events. He faced a Jund mirror matchup in the finals against Alessandro Culotti and proved he is the better Jund master. Here’s the list that he used: Read more

My Notable Worldwake Cards

The previous weekend was the worldwide release party of the recent Magic: The Gathering expansion, Worldwake, which was also the expansion set of Zendikar. As players talk about the powerful cards of the set (I’m referring to the new Jace and the demon Abyssal Persecutor) which can be a possible inclusion in the current Standard, I think I can say that Worldwake isn’t that impressive like Zendikar. There are a number of playable cards though, waiting to be discovered and abused. Let’s take a look at the candidates. Read more

Mono Black Vampires Deck Update

Hi all, here is a recent update of our build on Mono Black Vampires in Standard. For your info, Vampires has done pretty well in the recent Magic: The Gathering Worlds championship. It has finished undefeated (6-0) in Day 1 of that event despite being less popular with only 4 players piloting the deck.
The deck’s build varies mainly based on the meta. Well, we can say that today’s meta is still infested with variations of Jund which is still the best deck of choice. The deck will be adjusted to go anti to that. We’ve done a few playtests and tweaks to the list and here are my observations: Read more
How to Deal With Jund

Hi all. It may be known to you or you have noticed lately that the Jund aggro seems to be the most dominating deck in the current Zendikar Standard.
As I have checked on the recent tournaments on Magic Online and on Magic-League, the results have proved it. It seems that the new cards aren’t enough to counter the power of the Cascade spells.
However, we analyze a few weaknesses of the deck, which later on we can use to adjust to our deck building strategies. Here are a few of them: Read more

Grand Prix Melbourne in Australia finished with Yuuya Watanabe winning on top. Yuuya defeated a fellow Japanese and Pro player Tomoharu Saito with his blue-black deck with the bomb rare Sphinx of Jwar Isle. Saito drafted a controllish black green deck with 2 Marsh Casualties, the Vampire legend Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet, and with splash for blue and red. Their record was two games to one. Here are the drafted deck list of the two. Read more
Black Red Blightning in Zendikar Standard
October 3, 2009 by Mark Ian

Hi all, happy Friday! I hope your weekend will be productive, both in Mtg tournaments and other stuff. For this post, I’ll take an analysis on the Black Red Blightning deck which was one of the top decks in pre-Zendikar Standard. The deck suffered a lot on this rotation with the loss of its important components. We said goodbye to Demigod of Revenge, Figure of Destiny, Boggart Ram-Gang, Flame Javelin and to the black red lands Auntie’s Hovel and Graven Cairns. The question now is: Is the deck still competitive enough in the new Standard? We’ll soon find out as Zendikar becomes legal on tournaments this weekend. Read more
