M15 Card Discussion: Generator Servant

Generator-Servant-M15
The upcoming coreset has got me wearing my brewing cap again, probably due to the new card strategies combined with the reprinting of old favorites. Today’s M15 card preview is another card that I think was built and would suit for Red aggro decks. This two-drop Elemental creature is Generator Servant. Check out the card below.

M15 Generator Servant

It may look like an ordinary 2/1 for two mana, but its ability to ramp into bigger creatures and giving them Haste is very relevant for aggro deck strategies. Here is a list of a Red Devotion deck that I think the card would fit.

Red splash White Devotion
Standard Post M15

Maindeck
4 Ash Zealot
4 Stormbreath Dragon
4 Fanatic of Mogis
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Boros Reckoner
3 Frostburn Weird
3 Generator Servant
2 Purphoros, God of the Forge

3 Chained to the Rocks
3 Mizzium Mortars
2 Hammer of Purphoros

2 Battlefield Forge
11 Mountain
4 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
4 Sacred Foundry
3 Temple of Triumph

The deck can start fast with a Burning-Tree Emissary chain or just a second turn Burning-Tree Emissary into Generator Servant. The servant can then sacrifice into a turn three Stormbreath Dragon or at least power up a hasty Fanatic of Mogis. Given the right starting draws, the deck can definitely have an explosive first five turns.

An example scenario would be:

First Turn: Mountain, done.
Second Turn: Mountain, Ash Zealot, attack, done. (2 damage)
Third Turn: Mountain, Burning-Tree Emissary into Generator Servant, Ash Zealot, attack, done. (2 damage)
Fourth Turn: Mountain, Tap Generator Servant to add mana, cast Fanatic of Mogis (5 damage), attack BTE, Ash Zealot and Mogis (8 damage), done.

That is already 17 points of damage dealt by the fifth turn, and by which you just cast another Fanatic of Mogis for lethal or just attack for the win.

Generator Servant also gets you enough mana for an overloaded Mizzium Mortars is case your opponent has established an early defense, or can get the Stormbreath Dragon Monstrous a turn earlier. Whichever case, Generator Servant is perfectly best included in this type of deck.
