M19 Card Feature: Ajani’s Last Stand

It seems that Wizards has officially started the previews of the upcoming Core Set 2019 with two major articles on the mothership site. I could not tackle each card by my opinion but I think we should start somewhere.

For the first of the formal Core Set 2019 card features for this blog, I present to you Ajani’s Last Stand.

At first look, it works more like a sideboard card because of its conditions and given the 4 casting cost. We can delve in details of its functions if combined with specific card strategies. Your best guess would be the same as mine: tokens. To moreBlack-whites the Black-white version. Anointed Procession gets you two 4/4 Avatars instead of one, and Hidden Stockpile gets you the sacrifice effect that will trigger the first ability.

The second ability protects you from random discard like the second effect of The Eldest Reborn. It acts as a pseudo-Loxodon Smiter but a 4/4 with flying could be a relevant early threat.

If you are that eager to return enchantments from your graveyard, you can include in the deck one or two copies of Tragic Poet. She can also return cards like History of Benalia. Sad thing though is that I would prefer Auramancer over her.

Anyhow, that is a wrap for today’s card preview on Ajani’s Last Stand. Until the next post.
