Two Standard Decklist for Magic 2014

Magic 2014 Core set is just around the corner and only a few weeks remain until it is released in Standard. As of this moment, a total of 158/249 cards has already been revealed in the spoilers online. The main source site Mtg Salvation is the one who’s always updated of the latest rumors around the web regarding the set.

I can say that possible Standard decks can now be formulated and created this early. Here are my two suggestions for this blog post. First up:

Selesnya Auras
M14 Standard

2 Elite Inquisitor
1 Precint Captain
4 Fencing Ace
3 Knight of Glory
2 Nearheath Pilgrim
4 Silverblade Paladin
3 Ajani’s Chosen
19 Creatures

1 Ajani, Caller of the Pride
2 Abundant Growth
2 Brave the Elements
4 Ethereal Armor
1 Oblivion Ring
4 Rancor
2 Selesnya Charm
3 Unflinching Courage
19 Spells

3 Forest
8 Plains
1 Selesnya Guildgate
4 Sunpetal Grove
4 Temple Garden
2 Gavony Township
22 Lands

The M14 cards utilized are Ajani’s Chosen and the reprinted Brave the Elements. The chosen works well with the 14 auras in the deck, plus the recurring Rancor. Brave the Elements is obviously much better than Faith’s Shield, protecting your horde from Bonfire or Mortars, and letting you an alpha strike with various double striking critters or a pride of cats.

The second deck I suggest is Mono Red. Here is my proposed list:

Mono Red
M14 Standard

4 Ash Zealot
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
2 Chandra’s Phoenix
4 Lightning Mauler
3 Firefist Striker
3 Hellrider
2 Legion Loyalist
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Stromkirk Noble
30 Creatures

2 Awaken the Ancient
4 Searing Spear
4 Pillar of Flame
10 Spells

20 Mountain
20 Lands

The new red inclusions welcome the return of Chandra’s Phoenix and the recent pseudo-Koth effect, Awaken the Ancient. I’ve increased the land count by 1 Mountain so as to utilize the aura for late game or post-Verdict finisher. The number of hasty critters has somewhat increased in this list with the Phoenix but I didn’t used a playset because of the slow three mana cost.

That’s about it for these two decks. I’m sure M14 is another format defining set inclusion in Standard & with a few weeks before the whole set is revealed, there should be enough new cards for us to create new decks with or upgrade existing ones.

Until next post & thanks for reading.
