Standard Dimir Control Sedgemoor Witch Build Adjustment

The Standard metagame deck archetypes are continually updating their arsenal to be able to adapt and get an advantage on each matchup. For today’s deck feature, I will discuss the Dimir Control deck that has been showing results in the recent Magic: the Gathering Standard events online and on the tabletop.

Dimir Control goes with an updated build of having the maindeck Sedgemoor Witch. The purpose is to interact and manage the aggro decks with the generated Pest tokens. At the same time, it can also use the pests to apply pressure on the control decks. Its current creature lineup in the maindeck is the following:

4 Sedgemoor Witch
3 Lier, Disciple of the Drowned

Having a playset of the Witch makes sure that it can be cast as early as turn three though you can play around spot removals by having it on the later turns with backup mana to cast spells protecting it.

Lier, later on, will grant Flashback to the previously-played spells, and trigger more Pest tokens from the With. It seemed to be a stable game plan provided that the Witch will live through the opponent’s spot removals. Izzet Turns may easily deal with it, but for Mono-Green and Mono-White it might turn out as a problem, especially when the Dimir deck curves its spot removal spells. Mono-Green’s Fight spell can be easily countered or disrupted while Mono-White’s Brutal Cathar exile effect is just temporary.

Overall, having the maindeck Sedgemoor Witch may not hurt the core deck build of the Dimir Control deck but rather make them take the tempo-strategy route but make pressure with the Pest tokens while preventing opponents from developing their board.
