A Few Magic: the Gathering websites are usually a goldmine when they have this feature of their patrons and visitors submitting their decklist ideas. Aside from the Top Tier decks in the Standard format, for instance, you can also check on some build strategies that you may have missed out on. Expect them though to be lesser in power as compared to the current metagame decks.

One of the user-submitted Standard decks I have found that I will feature today is probably the newest theme for the Dragon-tribal deck. Its main superstar is Tiamat from the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, and the ETB ability lets you grab two more Dragon cards from the deck not named as him and as a great card advantage even as the opponent gets to answer it. The rest of the lineup is composed of the best Dragon cards in the current Standard format, and spells to ramp your mana (You Happen On a Glade) and control the opponent’s board (Power Word Kill, Dragon’s Fire). The deck’s core colors are Jund (Black-Red-Green).

Check out the full decklist of the Standard Tiamat Dragons deck below.

What fascinates me when building Magic: the Gathering Standard decks is the color splashing that they do to be efficient in countering other metagame decks. Adding a third color goes beyond the traditional build with the minimal drawback of not getting the right lands for example. In today’s Standard AFR deck feature, we have a Gruul Aggro list that went “dark” by having access to Black’s strong spot removals. Not to mention the main deck Valki, God of Lies.

The deck was played by Dustyn Aranda Rojas and finished in 1st place in the SCG Tour Online – Satellite #8 @ Star City Games wherein the Top 8 was mostly composed of aggro decks.

As we continue to scour on the Magic: the Gathering Adventures in the Forgotten Realm Standard format, we check on each new cards’ role in the deck build and gauge its effectiveness and value. One card can have a major impact on the deck, taking its main strategy to another level, or it can be as a support card to gain additional value if combined with a regular card component.

For today’s Adventures in the Forgotten Realm card feature, we have the card that will further improve a tier Standard deck sustainability in the late game. Check out Rogue Class.

The Standard deck Rogues is still a regular deck choice in the format and with the new set’s card components that updates it. Rogue Class will have its creatures an added effect of one more card to exile. Soaring Thought-Thief gets to mill 3 cards in total while Thieves’ Guild Enforcer gets a mill value whenever it deals combat damage aside from its ETB ability.

That is just the initial as the third level of the card will reap the benefits of casting the exiled cards against the opponent. Given that Enchantments are still hard to deal with in the current format.

Standard Decks with Adventures in the Forgotten Realm are already seeing play in Arena and MTGO, and so we’d expect some results and decklists to share on a separate post. Wrapping up things for now and see you on the next blog post.
