In a Standard environment where synergy-driven decks often outperform raw rate creatures, Ravenous Robots stands out as a potential engine piece for artifact-based strategies. At only two mana, it comes down early and immediately threatens to snowball if supported properly. The key isn’t its 2/1 body—it’s the token generation that scales with every artifact you cast.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;
	min-width:100px;
	max-width:970px;
	width:100%;
	height:200px" data-ad-client="ca-pub-2323336148464359" data-ad-slot="7353149719"></ins>

The first strategic layer is density. A Standard build around Ravenous Robots requires a high concentration of cheap artifacts such as equipment, utility artifacts, prototype-style creatures, or low-cost value pieces to reliably trigger token creation multiple times per turn. Even casting two artifacts in a single turn turns this into three bodies on board, which can quickly overwhelm slower decks.

The second layer is pressure conversion. Its activated ability, granting haste to creature tokens, allows sudden burst damage, meaning opponents can’t safely tap out just because your tokens entered this turn. This creates a pseudo-combo turn where a handful of artifacts suddenly becomes 4–6 hasty attackers, forcing immediate answers or ending the game outright.

It also pairs well with sacrifice, anthem, or counter-based subthemes. Wide token boards benefit from global pump effects, and artifact synergies often include payoffs that care about artifact count or creatures entering the battlefield. Even board wipes can feel awkward for opponents if you can rebuild quickly with cheap artifact spells the following turn.

In Standard, Ravenous Robots likely slots into an aggressive red-based artifact shell (such as Izzet) or a Rakdos-style go-wide build. It’s not a standalone threat, but as an engine, it demands synergy and careful deck construction. In the right meta—especially one light on early sweepers—it can turn incremental artifact plays into overwhelming battlefield dominance.

Thanks for reading.

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of Magic: The Gathering preview season. Each day brings new reveals, speculation, and excitement as players around the world scroll through social media or official streams to see what cards are coming next. Whether it’s a powerful reprint, a surprising new mechanic, or the return of a beloved character, these moments capture the heart of what makes MTG special — the shared anticipation of discovery.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;
	min-width:100px;
	max-width:970px;
	width:100%;
	height:200px" data-ad-client="ca-pub-2323336148464359" data-ad-slot="7353149719"></ins>

Personally, seeing card previews feels like unwrapping a piece of the game’s future. Every new card sparks imagination — brewing potential decks, guessing storylines, and dreaming of clever combos before the set even hits shelves. It’s more than just spoilers; it’s a celebration of creativity and community, as fans discuss, debate, and theorycraft together. Each reveal fuels that childlike excitement of seeing new possibilities unfold in the world of Magic.

Part of the excitement in every new MTG set reveal is seeing how the five colors of Magic are expressed in fresh ways. Each color — white, blue, black, red, and green — represents its own philosophy, and the preview season often showcases how these identities evolve within the set’s theme. Maybe white gets new tools for teamwork and protection, blue experiments with tricky tempo spells, or black unveils powerful but risky effects. Red might bring explosive aggression, while green delivers massive creatures and growth. Watching how the colors interact, blend, or even bend their usual limits adds another layer of depth and anticipation to every card preview.

The upcoming Universes Beyond: Avatar – The Last Airbender set has incredible potential to explore all five colors of Magic through the lens of elemental bending. Each nation naturally aligns with a color’s philosophy — Water with adaptability and harmony in blue and white, Earth with resilience and stability in green, Fire with passion and ambition in red, and Air with freedom and detachment in blue and white. The Avatar, who masters all four elements, perfectly embodies five-color identity, symbolizing balance, unity, and versatility. If Wizards of the Coast leans into that theme, we could see creative designs that capture Aang’s journey toward harmony and the blending of all colors into one powerful expression of balance.

As each new Magic: The Gathering set approaches, preview season reminds us why we fell in love with the game in the first place — its creativity, its storytelling, and its ability to unite players through shared excitement. Seeing how familiar themes, colors, and worlds are reimagined keeps the game feeling alive and ever-evolving. With the Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover on the horizon, fans have even more reason to be thrilled, as it promises to merge elemental mastery with the rich color philosophies of Magic itself. In the end, every reveal isn’t just about new cards — it’s about rediscovering the wonder that makes Magic truly timeless.

Thanks for reading.

Back in the days of the Onslaught set in Standard, Cycling was on the mechanics and there was one deck archetype built around it that had become a top tier deck in the metagame. The deck works on the two main Enchantments that gains advantage whenever you cycle a card and those were Astral Slide and Lightning Rift. For today’s card preview and feature, we have an Ikoria enchantment that is of similar function of the previous cards mentioned.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;
	min-width:100px;
	max-width:970px;
	width:100%;
	height:150px" data-ad-client="ca-pub-2323336148464359" data-ad-slot="7353149719"></ins>

Check out Reptilian Reflection.

Built-around a mechanic decks are usually well-supported as what I have observed in the recent Magic sets. In the upcoming Ikoria set, I think it will be the same case as it is a standalone set. How the deck setup will look like is the main question. Having a playset of this enchantment may not act as win condition on itself but a 5/4 hasty Dinosaur is one threat that you should consider seriously.

What is tricky here is that you would only activate it for open plays as it is vulnerable to spot removals. You can bait out your opponents with other threats so later on they won’t have an answer to this one.

There are relevant Cycling cards already revealed and so it will be easy to sort which cards to use. I might expect the deck to be that of the tri-color shell in Jeskai or Temur. The previous Onslaught Cycle deck was in Boros (Red-White) colors. For consistency purposes, I would personally go with two colors and then splash a third one for a safe access to that shard color in the sideboard.

I might follow up a Cycle decklist (first version) once the complete Ikoria card spoilers is out. For now, I am wrapping up this blog post and until next time.

It is happening, Rakdos aggro is back. With this card preview, they really have been pushing the Spectacle mechanic to be a huge advantage on its cards. On this blog postcard preview, we will feature a solid three-drop with a Spectacle enabler is just very relevant when you are going into this deck strategy.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;
	min-width:100px;
	max-width:970px;
	width:100%;
	height:200px" data-ad-client="ca-pub-2323336148464359" data-ad-slot="7353149719"></ins>

Check out Spawn of Mayhem.

Ok so it is basically a 4/4 for four but the bonus Spectacle cost makes it into the three-drop slot. The mana cost is an advantage because it can dodge cards like Ritual of Soot and Vraska, Golgari Queen. The 4/4 body also makes it out of range to Deafening Clarion, a card that mostly destroys aggro decks in the current metagame. Its 10-life-less pump trigger may also help to finish off opponents faster and you can achieve it faster with cards like Arguel’s Blood Fast, losing life while still gaining card advantage.

Seeing the card’s potential in Modern, the Spectacle cost be achieved a lot with the frequent life loss trigger due to the fetch lands and shocklands.

I might be excited to come up with a decklist for Rakdos in Standard but for now, I will just wait until the complete Ravnical Allegiance spoilers are up. We may have more ‘tools’ to work with.

This card reminded me of Fanatic of Xenagos from Born of the Gods though, on this version, you get to choose the mode. The 4/4 Trampler for three mana is already overly solid but the bonus of Hexproof on your turn makes it on a superb rating. This creature can basically stop Settle the Wreckage for good as long as it remains on the battlefield.

This also puts Gruul aggro as a potential Tier 1 deck in Ravnica Allegiance Standard. Given that we have Llanowar Elves to Ramp the spellbreaker early which can also protect the Green powerhouse Carnage Tyrant from the settle shenanigans. The guild can also utilize the Explore creature cards from the current Golgari decks.

The other deck option would be a Jund Aggro deck as I saw the archetype in Return to Ravnica Standard. With the two shocklands reprinted in Ravnica Allegiance, it will just be easy to curve out the creatures into this efficient three-drop.

I won’t show some decklist just yet as we needed more card spoilers from the upcoming set but one thing I am sure is that this will be metagame relevant for the upcoming months.

The spoiler season for Ravnica Allegiance has formally started with the mothership site releasing the promo cards and packaging of the various products of the set i.e. booster packs, boxes, and planeswalker decks.

They have also released the Ravnica Allegiance set trailer which you can check on the video below.

It was somewhat a huge lot of cards that were previewed so I will just highlight three cards for now. There is a lot posted on the card previews on Reddit so I just chose three for this batch. First of all is The Haunt of Hightower.

This Legendary Vampire ain’t that solid with just 3 toughness but then given that six mana it will be more efficient in the later game. The first ability to discard a card is quite beneficial for control matchups but then again talking about its vulnerability to spot removals, you might want to have it as a sideboard card against them. Grixis control or the straightforward Blue Black discard deck might have this in their lineup.

Next is Gate Colossus.

Finally, a creature that benefits from the Gate lands of Ravnica. I am foreseeing a five-color Gate-based midrange deck with a playset of this card. Having an 8/8 power and toughness is already solid and in addition to that is it can’t be chump-blocked by a random soldier or knight tokens. The late-game recursion is also a plus. I just hope it won’t be hit by Vraska’s Contempt. I am pretty much excited to brew this one once the complete Ravnica Allegiance spoiler is out.

Last but not least, Lavinia, Azorius Renegade.

She might be just a regular bear in Standard, but seeing the Modern metagame will surely get her a place either in Hatebears or in Five-color Humans decks. Her first ability stops Tron’s shenanigans of early Karn or Ugin and her second counters free and alternately-paid spells like Force of Will. She will surely become a staple in the older formats.

That is a wrap for the first batch of RNA previews in this blog. I have only learned of the Rakdos’ mechanic of Spectacle which I think is just slow unless they will have something that will be relevant in midrange decks. You can check the articles posted at Wizard’s Daily MTG site.

Until the next blog post.

The first wave of the official previews of the set Rivals of Ixalan which is scheduled to be released this month has been posted on various websites since Monday. In this regard, the previewed cards so far revealed that the slithery Blue swimmers are back in Standard once again.

The notable new Merfolks for this archetype are the following:

Merfolk Mistbinder – a two-drop Lord, nuff said.

Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca – the 2/4 body protects this legend from Lightning Strikes and given three tap activation abilities, your options to maximize your turns give you a lot of variances.

Seafloor Oracle – the cost might be a bit high but curving on the fourth turn and drawing tons of cards from damage dealt is very good.

Silvergill Adept – a decent two-drop and a cantrip in itself. It has already seen play way back in Lorwyn Standard and it is no surprise that it will be the same now.

Swift Warden – a 3/3 body with Flash is already a good deal and the bonus Hexproof is a blowout card advantage in most situations.

With these new additions given that there is a new Merfolk lord, it seems that the deck is almost 90% complete. For the lands, Botanical Sanctum and Unclaimed Territory can fix the mana base and for a consistent one-two-three curve. The possible spells to include are Blossoming Defense, the new Raid Counterspell, Admiral’s Order, Unsummon for tempo, and maybe card draw spells like Chart a Course.

The deck has a lot of potential to become Tier 1 despite the dominance of Energy-based decks in the current metagame. I will develop a final UG Merfolks decklist once the spoiler is complete.

That is a wrap for now until the next post.

The next upcoming big set in Magic: the Gathering TCG is named Amonkhet and is to be released this April 2017. The previews so far that were found are the packaging of the booster packs and bundle as well as the look of the two Planeswalker decks which feature Gideon and Liliana. Not sure this time if the lady necromancer is still a member of the Avengers err Gatewatch, as usually these decks showcase dueling planeswalkers. Anyhow, another preview are the five Gods of the plane. As the theme is of Egyptian mythology, the gods also resembles that of the actual Egyptian Gods. Here are the preview pics below.

[See image gallery at deathmarked.info]

Now pertaining to these God previews, there have been rumors that Devotion will return as one of the mechanic of the set. While it fits the set’s theme, I think it is too early to have that as a returning mechanic since it was two or three years ago that the Theros set featured that.

I am pretty sure Wizards will come up with another set of fresh mechanics that will relate to God theme of the Amonkhet. We shall see in the coming weeks or once the official previews start.
A few card previews from the upcoming big set Khans of Tarkir has been revealed in the recent Duel Decks edition: Speed versus Cunning. One card in particular that I have noticed was the Mardu Heart-Piercer and its mechanic, Raid.

The ability triggers when you have attacked a creature this turn, in this case Mardu Heart-Piercer deals 2 damage to target creature or player. This works well if you have early beaters on your first three turns, in which most aggro deck has this feature. This also gets you a similar trigger in cards like Goblin Rabblemaster.

Here is a sample Standard Red aggro decklist post rotation:

Creatures
4 Akroan Crusader
4 Foundry Street Denizen
4 Firedrinker Satyr
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
3 Mardu Heart-Piercer
4 Mogis’s Warhound

Spells
3 Titan’s Strength
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Lightning Strike
4 Dragon Mantle

Lands
19 Mountain
3 Temple of Triumph

The Boss Sligh which I referenced its build as I expect this archetype will still be around in Standard post rotation. Mardu Heart-Piercer is the only top curve creature on the deck, with twelve one drops for a consistent first-two-turns punch. Its one Red mana casting cost also benefits it on being used on other two-color aggro decks like Rakdos (Black Red) and Gruul (Red Green).

I am expecting cheap and a variety of Raid cards in the coming spoiler weeks so I might post an updated deck list.

Until next time.

Last night, Wizards provided some card previews via its Twitter account for the Magic 2014 core set. There were a few puzzle tweets at first, and those eventually led to a major reveal which is the return of Slivers creature types in the set. This time, it’s somewhat new as the card previews show that they’ve evolved into humanoid types and very different from its features before.

There is still no confirmation if the Sliver Queen will actually be reprinted in the set. It would be insane it if happens. Check out the Sliver cards we will be expecting in the next core set below.
