Today, I decided to check again the Spikes Reddit thread as it is usually updated with decklists, tournament results and deck techs of various formats (Standard, Modern, etc). One of the threads I have found is the tournament results of the AetherHub Community Tournament last Nov 30th with 61 participants. The winning deck is Izzet Flash, and the build improved in a tempo type but can quickly finish off opponents with the inclusion of Embercleave for a double-strike damage clock. For a long game option, it has Gadwick for hand draw replenish.

I am checking on the current Standard decks in Throne of Eldraine than can be considered as of a budget type. Mono colors are the usual options and for today’s topic on budget Standard MtG, we have the Mono-Black Cauldron deck. The core components are Witch’s Oven and the bunch of recurring creatures in Cauldron Familiar and Gutterbones. Here below is the decklist.

Probably the most expensive component here is the Murderous Rider which can be easily substituted to the sideboard. You already have the priest to deal with opponents’ threats though it should be carefully set up to avoid spot removals. I would prefer to main deck a discard spells like Drill Bit to know what they have in hand and so you can adjust your gameplan. You can also opt for Spawn of Mayhem for a fast clock in the 3-mana slot.

The total deck cost is around 70 USD or just only 3,150 pesos and cutting the riders will almost half the amount. Maindecked Riders is the recommended build but you can adjust according to your local metagame. I am sure it is Oko-based.

I am happy that my guild colors (Rakdos or Black Red) has been doing great finishes in the recent major Magic: the Gathering tournaments. One of which that the reason I posted today’s deck feature is a version of the Rakdos Sacrifice Aggro deck that finished in the Top 4 of Magic Fest Lyon 2019 last weekend. It was piloted by the pro-player Andreas Ganz and surprisingly it was the only aggro deck that got into the Top 8.

The deck’s main strategy is to gain advantage with Cauldron Familiar and Witch’s Oven while chipping out early damage in the first turns. Threats and planeswalkers can be dealt with Angrath’s Rampage and Claim the Firstborn in which the latter can get opponents’ creatures sacrificed to the oven.

I guess I should get an extra time to update myself of the current metagame in Standard. That means reading decklists is not only enough. Despite the dominance of Oko decks in the recent weeks, several has been doing its adjustments to feature a different strategy to attack the archetype. one of which is the recent build of the Esper deck wherein the key cards are Doom Foretold and Dance of the Manse.

While checking on the recent results of the tournaments online as well as the at the Arena decklists, I noticed that some of the archetypes are getting back on their guild colors. Examples are that of the Simic Flash and Gruul Aggro. We also have a few version of Dimir Control and basic Azorius Tap out decks. I guess players are working on what the best cards that the Ravnica block offers while giving it updates with Throne of Eldraine components.

As for today’s blog post, I am featuring a version of the Green Stompy deck since Throne of Eldraine showed five Rare and Common lands that support the single color builds. The list features Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig, and Syr Faren that has ways to pump themselves or other creatures.

The first wave of Standard Throne of Eldraine has come to the local MTG Iloilo Community and unfortunately, I was not able to join the completion of our Team’s decks has not yet pushed through. For now, I will just enjoy checking on the new build and look of the top decks in the meta and to start with, we have a three or four color version of the Adventure deck. This deck archetype is probably the lone themed deck of the set. A lot of adventure creatures are being supported in value with the artifact Lucky Closer. This lets you copy each of your Adventure instant or sorcery spell. I have spotted one deck in yesterdays’ Standard tournament at Pro Reis place.
