The recent hobbies gathering event that our MtG community participated with was the second Iloilo Hobby Con last July 2015. It was a fun and fulfilled two days of Standard tournament and tutorial sessions along with the Magic Origins Iloilo Prerelease.

Starting 2016 was the finally planned Iloilo Game Festival. It was before named as Road to ICCON but I don’t know what really happened why it was changed. Anyhow, the scheduled date will be on January 16 to 17, 2016 and will held at the Shops @ Amigo. There are also other card game tournaments like the Cardfight Vanguard, Yugi-oh and introduction of board games such as King of Tokyo and recently released card games like A Game of Thrones LCG.

I forgot to post the details of the MtG Day 2 Side Events for the Second Iloilo Hobby Con when I created the official event online poster and so, writing this blog post will be my reference in case people will inquire about the details of these events. The possible tournaments are Modern, 1v1 Commander and Standard Pauper. Here are the details for the Day 2 side events:

8-Man Modern
Format: Modern Constructed
Entry Fee: 100php
Single-Elimination, winner takes all.
Booster pack prizes (if stocks are available)

8-Man 1v1 Commander
French Bannings
Entry Fee: 100php
Single-Elimination, winner takes all.
Booster pack prizes (if stocks are available)

8-Man Standard Pauper
Format: Standard Pauper
Entry Fee: 100php
Single-Elimination, winner takes all.
Booster pack prizes (if stocks are available)

Do note that if ever there are more than eight participants, we will consider changing it into regular rounds of Swiss and the top 2 or 3 players will receive the prizes. The Standard main event though is still priority of the play tables to be used. We are expecting to accommodate twenty-five to thirty participants and hopefully the tables at Rei’s place would suffice.

So the date has been set. Iloilo’s First Hobby Con will be this coming August 10 to 11, 2013 at the Marymart Mall in the heart of the city. My major affiliations for this event are two at the moment: Iloilo Toys and Comics Collector and Magic: the Gathering Iloilo.

The toy display group is somewhat halfway done with the preparation, as we think about gimmicks to do for the visitors during the two-day display. We thought about having a photobooth to serve as the stage for souvenir photos, and also we’ll provide an “I Love ITCC” or “I Love Toys” signage for them to pose with. This would also serve as a promotion of the group to those interested to join the hobby.

As for Magic: the Gathering Iloilo, we are currently on the plan of a good tournament structure on the first day so as to get more players and also advertise the community. Standard would still be the format of choice. We just need the prizes to be spicy enough, and our booth to be at least interactive. This means endorsement from sponsors which I don’t know where to get at the moment.

I am still hoping for good news as the day progresses until the event and yes, sponsors would be good. Wish us luck.
