The Iloilo City Cultural Heritage Conservation Council (ICCHCC) is a government agency established to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Iloilo City, Philippines. The council was created through Executive Order No. 55 issued by the former Mayor of Iloilo City, Jed Patrick Mabilog, in 2011.

The ICCHCC is responsible for the identification, protection, preservation, and promotion of cultural heritage sites and structures in Iloilo City. It is also tasked with the development and implementation of programs and projects that promote the cultural heritage of the city.

The council is composed of various stakeholders, including government officials, heritage conservation experts, cultural advocates, and representatives from the private sector. Together, they work towards the conservation and promotion of Iloilo City’s cultural heritage, which includes historic buildings, landmarks, and cultural practices.

The ICCHCC’s efforts have helped to raise awareness and appreciation for Iloilo City’s rich cultural heritage. The council’s work has also contributed to the city’s economic growth by promoting heritage tourism and preserving the city’s unique identity.

Residents of the city are urged to put together a survival kit (K-KIT) with enough equipment and supplies to cover their needs for 72 hours in case of an emergency or disaster. This is one good practice to promote preparedness and risk reduction concepts to the city local residents.

Disasters like earthquakes can occur at any time without prior notice, according to Donna Magno, director of the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CRDDMO), who made the statement on Saturday, December 31.

“It might occur at any time. We always stress to the public that there is a sense of urgency because we never know when it will occur, she added in an interview.

What is a 72-Hour Emergency Kit?

In a general definition, “This comprehensive kit includes supplies for shelter, first aid, hygiene, lights, and water. Two adults can survive on the chosen items for 72 hours. If you need to spend some time outside in the rain, there is a water-proof emergency shelter included that you can sit within.”

The kit has to be checked and replenished every three months and stored in an area that can be easily accessed in case of emergency.

For us Filipinos, the plaza’s legacy as a public area is unquestionably very significant. It is a prominent religious and cultural site that remains a silent reminder of our tempestuous past. A structure and culture inherited from the Spaniards.

It is an expression of our diverse cultural heritage, which had been shaped by early foreign traders as well as by Spanish and American during their era of occupancy.

As a result, it is essential that the plaza be maintained; if necessary, it should be rehabbed, restored, upgraded, kept clean, and protected. It must be used in the aspect of social interactions, preferably for religious and cultural purposes. These are very significant aspects and must be added to the current and upcoming projects of the LGUs.

This is maybe week-late news but still, I am happy to share on this blog that my home city, Iloilo, has gained a batch of awards, in particular, the most improved Highly Urbanized City in the recent Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index Rankings for 2022.

Rankings of Cities and Municipalities are based on the sum of their scores on 5 Pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation. This was then our Standard basis for the city’s goals and objectives during our ISA workshop held last October 19 to 21, 2022 at The District 21 Hotel, Iloilo City.

A summary of the awards garnered by Iloilo City is as follows:

After attending the opening webinar series of the ProjectGUHeat last Friday, there is a follow-up batch of webinars that specifically features the results of each study city. It will be initiated by Iloilo City which is scheduled for tomorrow.

The Geospatial Assessment and Modelling of Urban Heat Islands in Philippine Cities (Project GUHeat) brings you the Iloilo City Webinar on July 21, 2020 (Tuesday) from 1:30 – 3:30 PM. The speakers will tackle the urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon in Iloilo City, discuss current and proposed initiatives and strategies to mitigate UHI, and present useful maps, tools, and other GUHeat products that can be utilized by concerned agencies and local government offices to address urban heat. The webinar will be held via Zoom and live streamed via the Project GUHeat official Facebook page (fb.com/tagaguheat).

The Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art or short-termed as ILOMOCA is the first museum in Visayas and Mindanao area that is dedicated to contemporary Art. It exhibits the various works of Ilonggo, Filipino and International artists. It also has a function room for lectures and art film viewing, an art bistro and a brandy museum. It is located at Casa de Emperador Festive Walk Parade, Mandurriao, Iloilo City and started its operations last March, 2018. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday.

I consider this as the first modern museum of sort in the city, with Museo Iloilo as the one for the history and arts.

My first time to visit the place was during our data gathering on the Iloilo City tourism and heritage site visit conducted last September for the Iloilo City Tourism Development Plan being formulated and headed by the City Tourism Office.
