We have held Magic: the Gathering tournaments on weekdays aside from the usual FNM and had the formats, Standard, Standard Pauper, and Modern. That was when players were actively participating and willing to spend their weeknights competing in a match of Magic the Gathering. That was way before the Return to Ravnica and Theros Standard era.

This year, we are reconsidering that tournament again. Regularization of the Wednesday Night Magic tournament can be possible if given that there is a venue that can stay up late until 10:00 pm. ProRei’s place would not be an option right now as Rei is still going to the office before 9:00 pm and it would be a nuisance if he would still hold a tournament hours before.

Players are willing to grind points in Standard just before this year’s cutoff date which will be at the end of March. This will be their other tournament option aside from the proposed Sunday events, along with the weekly FNM and Standard Showdown tourneys. We have already seen the date for the Philippine Nationals, and also most of the players have already booked a plane ticket to participate in that event in Manila. This Wednesday hopefully will be the first return tournament and we needed to advertise more of this event in order to garner additional players. However, there is still no final venue as of this posting. We will post an official event announcement as soon as possible.

I think we are bringing the Sunday tournaments in our Magic: the Gathering tourney schedule for the Iloilo community as more players have committed to participate. In the previous years, we held a few events such as Standard Pauper, Duel Commander and Modern tournaments in several venues. One example can be found here.

This time, Rei’s place A3 Bookstore will be tournament venue with Modern as the format of choice. We are also working with Ralph Flores to have his burger shop as another option for Sunday tourney. He is willing to raffle away one single patty burger for the participants, haha.

Anyhow we will see how this will go if ever it will twice a month or just one Sunday per month of Magic action. Just stay tuned for further updates both on this blog and at our MTG Iloilo community Facebook page.

This weekend will the 2015 World Magic Cup that will be held in Barcelona, Spain. While we are planning for a group watch of the live coverage of the event, the weekly FNM and Standard tournaments will still proceed as scheduled. Sunday will still be reserved for the Modern tournament and for us to garner more planeswalker points for next year’s WMCQ.

We will be having another Standard Pauper tournament for Sunday this week, aside from the usual Friday Night Magic and Saturday Standard. One other option is if we will be bringing back the Modern tournament, thinking on which schedule it will fit and that most of the players will be available. I guess I will just post an announcement with the date options for that one.
