A tokens deck in Magic: The Gathering is one of the renowned deck strategies that revolve around creating a large number of creature tokens to overwhelm opponents through sheer numbers. I remembered it as one of my iconic decks in the past during my competitive prime as a Magic: the Gathering player.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;
	min-width:100px;
	max-width:970px;
	width:100%;
	height:200px" data-ad-client="ca-pub-2323336148464359" data-ad-slot="7353149719"></ins>

Here is a quick info about the tokens deck. Unlike traditional decks that rely on casting individual creatures, tokens decks focus on generating multiple creatures at once, often through spells, abilities, or permanents like Secure the Wastes, March of the Multitudes, or Elspeth, Sun’s Champion. These tokens often have low individual power but become formidable when combined with effects that boost their strength or numbers. The main strategy to take note leverages the efficiency of token generation to quickly build a threatening board state, enabling aggressive attacks or defensive stalling, depending on the deck’s build.

One of the key strengths of a tokens deck is its ability to synergize with “go-wide” strategies, where cards like Intangible Virtue or Anointed Procession amplify the power of an army of tokens. Additionally, many tokens decks incorporate anthem effects (cards that boost the power and toughness of all creatures, such as Glorious Anthem) or other synergies like Cathars’ Crusade, which can turn even small tokens into massive threats.

I am happy to see a familiar deckbuild upon watching the Day 1 coverage of the SCG CON Atlanta on YouTube. See this decklist preview below by Devon O’Donnell.

As for the current card spoilers from the upcoming Magic: the Gathering Foundations set, I can assumedly conclude that the current control archetypes in the Standard format will be the most beneficial on this set’s release. That is because the reprints of powerful cards that control decks in the past have been used and made into the top-tier category. In this blog post, we will highlight several of these cards with a little detail on how they become the best choice for the control decks.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;
	min-width:100px;
	max-width:970px;
	width:100%;
	height:200px" data-ad-client="ca-pub-2323336148464359" data-ad-slot="7353149719"></ins>

We start with Day of Judgment. This White board sweeper is well known in Blue-White and even Mono-White control deck builds in the past, and having this one back in Standard is an auto inclusion in those current similar decks. The deck builds recently rely on Temporary Lockdown as a pseudo-sweep card and Split Up which is kind of conditional and wouldn’t really answer all creatures.

Next is Omniscience. This card will fit in a reanimator control type of deck with Reenact the Crime and Atraxa domain midrange though I am pretty sure this will see play in the format. Casting free spells by hand would really feel good.

White control decks are getting a good finisher now with the reprint of Lyra Dawnbringer. This powerful 5-drop just gives you a huge advantage once it is on the board. Make sure you have a backup counterspell in case of midrange opponents where they pack up solid spot removals for her.

A new option for a “flashy” version of control decks is having this new Angel, Herald of Eternal Dawn. It is a pseudo-Platinum Angel with a higher power/toughness and can be flashed to surprise block your opponent’s attackers. It does not care for you to go negative life as long as she remains on the battlefield.

With the completion of the MTG Foundations card spoiler in the coming weeks, we can conclude now that it will provide new card arsenals that greatly benefit the control decks in the Standard format. It will be interesting to see and discuss the potential new looks of these builds once the set is released for gameplay in MTG Arena or your local favorite local gamestore.
