The Magic the Gathering Iloilo Community has decided to bring back the MTG Iloilo Championships this year and it will be a two-day event. I think they are still voting for the weekend in December to schedule this one and the Saturday will cater the Standard format as almost all the local players are into it.

As for the Sunday, they have agreed it to be that of the Teams but the formats were also voted. So far the leading option in the tally is Standard-Pioneer-Modern. I have also voted for that one as that is the most viable option for the community. Most of the players have kept their cards after rotation and with the introduction of Pioneer, they will surely still have their pieces and components to build their decks with.

I am also longing for a Pioneer tournament but most of the players are still completing their deck builds. My card pool has already prepared at least three decks for Pioneer and are tournament ready. I am not sure though for myself as a pilot as I have not yet started playtesting the decks.

I am looking forward for the successful turnout of this year’s comeback MTG Iloilo City Championships.

So it is the return of the comeback, as titled in a Filipino film in my teens. We are bringing back Magic: the Gathering Iloilo City Champs this coming December 2016. One of my major reason was the big increase in the player population and I think of this as a sort of a gift for them to enjoy as we end the year.

The possible dates which I think will be finalized before we end this month are December 17-18, 2016. In previous years, we do it one week before Christmas week so the players can join before taking a vacation. As for the venue, we are thinking of putting it at Robinsons Place Jaro and we are yet to talk with their events manager.

Day 1 would probably be the main event which is Standard Constructed while Day 2 would be for 1v1 Commander, Kaladesh Booster Draft, and Standard Pauper. I will try to run these events simultaneously if given enough tables. Lastly, we will be having an awards ceremony and giving plaques to the winners.
