This weekend will be the prerelease of Magic the Gathering’s newest (core)set, Magic 2020, and there is one thing that we all wish for: No more product delays. I have said that because in the past few sets starting with Guilds of Ravnica, all of the local prerelease events have been delayed by a week or two. There were several scenarios that caused this, like natural calamities and unforeseen logistics, and those have really affected the local game stores and also the player experience.

Anyway as of this posting, the current schedule for the two game stores here in Iloilo City are as follows:

Friday, June 5, 2019
Magic 2020 Prerelease at Nth Dimension: Comics and Games
P1400 entry fee, gets one prerelease kit
Deck building starts 6:30pm
Round 1 starts 7:20pm

Saturday, June 6, 2019
Magic 2020 Prerelease at Pro Reis place
P1300 entry fee, same one prerelease kit
Deck building starts 12:30pm
Round 1 starts 1:20pm

Each prerelease kit contains the following:
6 Magic 2020 Booster packs
1 Randomized date-stamped premium promo card
1 Spindown life counter
1 Deck-building guide
1 Cardboard divider

Do remember to bring sleeves and basic lands for the deck building. Also stuff like dice and tokens that you might need during the games.

This coming September 29th-30th, the two local game stores in Iloilo City will hold two events that players will have first-hand experience of the Magic the Gathering October big set Guilds of Ravnica. We are all excited to the return of this plane and of course, the reprinting of the schocklands for use in Standard.

Saturday’s GRN Prerelease schedule will be at ProRei’s Place but the reservations has not started just yet. As for Sunday, we have Critical Hit hosting the tournament at their store in Atria or probably the one at Festive Walk. We will just wait for their detailed announcement on their page. For now, just prepare your budget of P1300 for the registration, your land pile of basics, card sleeves and deckbox, a couple of dice, paper and pen. The Prerelease kit would probably just include six GRN boosters, a 20-sided dice life counter, a Prerelease foil card, and some deck building guide.

The upcoming prerelease event for Guilds of Ravnica will be this fourth weekend of September (29th and 30th) and in that regard, Pro Reis place will be holding a Prerelease Pass Standard tournament wherein the winner will get a free entry worth about P1300. Here below are the details:

1st place after Swiss rounds gets a PR pass entry to the Guilds of Ravnica Prerelease event.

This weekend will be the Prerelease of the Rivals of Ixalan set and the opportunity to get a firsthand experience of the new cards and the continuation of the adventures in Ixalan. The local Iloilo community has two events scheduled on Saturday and Sunday

, with Rei’s local game store and Critical Hit respectively. Rei’s venue will be at Robinsons Place Jaro. The registration fee is around P1,300 per entry and included is a Prerelease kit that includes six booster packs, a random foil Rare or Mythic Rare, a quick guide, and 20-sided dice.

If this is your first time joining a Prerelease, the basic things you would need to bring to the event are the following:

• Basic lands for the building of the sealed decks
• Sleeves to protect the new cards
• Deckbox for storage
• Dice for the counters and stuff
• Pen and paper for the life total

If preregistration is available, please do so as it will secure your slot in the tournament in cases where you are expecting a lot of walk-in players. Also, make sure that you have slept well the night before as the deck-building part might be a challenge for you.

The recent major Prerelease event for Ixalan was held at Coffeebreak, Smallville Complex last Saturday, 23rd for September. The host venue provided enough tables for the players to setup their decks from cards opened in the prerelease kits and also offers various coffee delights to caffeinate their afternoon.
