Magic: The Gathering Judge Conference is an important event for judges because it provides a platform for judges to learn about updates to the rules and policies of the game, as well as to receive training on how to better perform their roles as judges. The conference typically includes seminars and workshops on various topics such as rules updates, policy changes, communication skills, and player management, among others.

The conference also serves as an opportunity for judges to network with each other and share experiences and knowledge. Nowadays, conferences are done in the combination of face-to-face and virtual via the Zoom and Discord platforms. One of the recent that I have attended online was the first scheduled for the year which was the SEA L1 Development conference. One of the topic that I was able to record and share on the video below was the topic: MTG Judges SEA L1 Dev Conference – 7 Lessons I wished I knew before Head Judging a Tournament by Level 3 Judge Joel Bantiles.

The coming Saturdays will be full of information dissemination and lectures on the topics regarding the judges topics as it was announced by the Judge Academy team on their website and also transmitted to our fellow judges in Manila.

This new wave of webinars, the SEA Judges Online Seminar Series, is sort of associated to the Southeast Asia Judge conference. It started last Saturday with L1 Judge Randolph Co as the key speaker and he discussed on the basics concepts of a Webinar and how to prepare for it. The topic is basically what we have in this new normal as I also attend the usual online events at work for planning-related and the academe.

It only took about two hours including the intro, roll call and Q & A but I think it was quite informative. Understanding the setup and the preparation is what is essential for a successful webinar. I rated it as a 5-star (excellent), and I hoped that the upcoming webinars will have somewhat the same vibe. Though it will be different kinds of topics, and the delivery is expected to be diametric.
