For the quick Magic: the Gathering workshop update, I have finally made the program flow outline along with the materials that I would need. A big thanks to the recent lecture of Ma’am Marfil in our DURP class with regards to conducting workshops. I would pattern this to the guidelines our teacher gave and also reflect on my experiences on the previous seminars and workshop that I have attended.

I would have each attendee registered with their name, email and contact number so as it would be easy to contact them for follow up events and future tournaments. Given the venue capacity, I would just prefer to have a maximum of 30 participants so each could be easily accommodated. That is if I have enough staff to assist me.

The workshop has a pseudo-formal theme, with the introduction of the speaker and statement of the objectives and end of the day goals. This will be followed by the Introduction to Magic: the Gathering and its history, and rules of the game discussion. An activity will then be conducted with the participants grouped into pairs and given the 30-card demo deck. An actual Magic: the Gathering game will be done, with the application of the rules discussed earlier. Let us just hope that they are attentive enough to remember the topics.

Now the next step would likely be asking my contacts on their school activities so as to know their schedule and apply my interest to include my workshop to their lineup. Probably I would write a formal letter to them.

For this coming weekend, we will be accommodating peeps who are new to the game or are planning to learn to play Magic: the Gathering. My friend Rei has informed me before that he got a box of MtG Welcome Decks to be distributed for free for

these players. I then messaged Carlo, owner of Hi-Gear gamezone in Marymart, if his shop is available for the tournament this coming Sunday. Good thing he said yes, and so I prepared the event announcement and details. Along with this tutorial session, there will also be a Standard Pauper tournament for the regulars.

New players will each receive a Magic Welcome Deck and Card Lot freebies for them to use for casual play or future Standard Pauper tournaments. Take note that these are of limited stock, so I’d suggest being at the venue early to be listed. The learn-to-play session will then be followed by a batch of four, which is two pairs that will play one duel game of Magic.

Kitakits on Sunday!

I have initially planned this event September last year to help spread the knowledge of this hobby as well as to recruit new players from the younger generations. I was not able to push through though because of lack of contacts from the schools for their events like College and University week and related happenings. Anyhow, I just would like to share this summary of the things to do during an MtG School Drive:

1. Introduction and brief history of Magic: the Gathering TCG.
2. Awareness of the local MtG Iloilo Community.
3. Magic: the Gathering learn-to-play discussion and play session along with distribution of test decks.
4. Giving out of freebie decks for those who are interested and for further play sessions.

So far these four are the important aspects of this school drive in which I will focus more on learning and mastering the parts of a turn and the card types’ interaction. Hopefully for this school semester I will be able to start the first leg. Hobby Con was the last major gathering wherein I was able to tutor the new players and hoping this will be the follow up to their learning.
