My favorite Gunpla modeling group on FB has recently announced its latest building challenge to its members. It’s called the MEK or Mono Eye Knights Challenge. What’s with the name? Quoting admin Zen’s post

“I was thinking of how to know or gauge each member’s level when it comes to gunpla building. and from there, help them out flourish and reach the next level. After some research, I found out about the stages of being a KNIGHT, and so I thought that it would be a good way to sort modellers out. hehe, at first naisip ko monoeye fiesta na lang, since all entries are monoeyes, pero I just thought it would be better to hit more zakus with a single shot from my beam rifle and so what I did, I added up KNIGHTS unto the MONOEYE, giving birth to our second event… MEK.”

Here are the mechanics of the challenge:

GENERAL RULES

– Participants must be a member of the GFP main page and/or any of the sub group of GFP.
– All entries should be a MONOEYE kit.

MONOEYE CHECK
– the eye of your kit should be VISIBLE, not hidden under a visor or anything.
– OZ suits like, Serpent Custom, are allowed.
– Scale restrictions will be stated per category below.
– The kit should either be Brand New or Snap-Fitted or at least a 10% progress WIP, before the start of the challenge.
– There will be four categories: PAGE, SQUIRE, KNIGHT, and PALADIN.
– A participant can only join ONE (1) category
– Maximum of 2 entries per participant
– Minimum of 4 entries to open a category
– NO BRAND RESTRICTION, JUST PURE AWESOMENESS.

CATEGORY RULES

PAGE
– open to builders aged 14 and below.
– no scale restriction.
– no minimum/maximum modification requirement

SQUIRE
– no age restriction
– any scale allowed except for SD
– Out-Of-The-Box Build Only
– water slide/custom decals allowed
– panel-lining allowed
– topcoating allowed

KNIGHT
– no age restriction
– any scale allowed except for SD
– any modification allowed
– the finished kit should have at least a sword[or any melee weapon] and/or a shield.

PALADIN
– no age restriction – must use a MONOEYE Mobile Suit piloted by Char Aznable/Full Frontal
– any scale except for SD.
– any modification allowed.

– the album can only contain WIP pictures up to 80% progress… all WIP pics beyond that progress should be not be added to your album. – MUGSHOTS should not be also added to the same album.

May 19 – deadline of submission of the MUGSHOTS
– all participants should have uploaded the MUGSHOTS of their entry in ZIP format on mediafire.com
– the ZIP file should contain 7 images with the following these filename syntax:

Hopefully I can find a decent Mono Eyed kit for this building challenge. There’s a lot of choices so its pretty hard to decide on which one. I’ll just let you know of the final kit I’ll be working on.
