So the Team’s recent card purchases were hastened after the Grand Prix results last weekend. That is because of the new deck archetypes that arose and certainly will affect the Standard metagame. We have already done with the Karn planeswalker the week before, and expecting the surge in its price. The rise of Black Red gave way to most Dominaria cards, in particular the Goblin Chainwhirler, to jump in prices. I have preorder it before for 50php and it jumped to 250 to 300php last weekend. It has definitely shaped the look of Red aggro decks and even converted it to a Black splash for better creature removal availability.

For the Blue-White Control and Flash variants, we recently bought History of Benalia as another important component, with a price that I again failed to forecast. I have also known Lyra to go up but I did not consider to add her to my list of Dominaria Preorders. These two cards made an impact in the build of Blue White, making them a Tier 1 deck in the current metagame. I have then added a few minor components such as Seal Away to the purchase, along with the Dominaria card reprints where I’d bought them while they are still cheap. A Clifftop Retreat for P150 sounds like a good deal.

The rest of the deck I’ve considered along with the Team to upgrade are Mono Green Stompy, Mono-Black Aggro, Blue Black Control and White Tokens. It is currently not a priority so the upgrade will just follow later on.

The total purchases would cost a lot but for the benefit of having a complete deck in the tournament. Now, all we need is to play and win.

Team 14 has been in hiatus in Standard for the past few months, that is until something provoked them to come back playing in the format. The release of the Dominaria set is probably the main reason as the new card and deck strategies have opened to play, along with previously unplayed cards from the previous sets are now getting the spotlight in the metagame.

As for this post, the team has thought of the possible decks to build for the Dominaria Standard format. Here are the built decks as of this posting:

This might take a while since some of the members are still busy catering the weekly Modern FNM at Critical Hit. I guess we should call again for the weekly dues so as to garner funds for these purchases.

Taking into account the Standard metagame which has become stagnant again two months after Kaladesh was released, the team was able to complete most of the Top tier deck archetypes. That was just before the City Champs last December. It was just disappointing though that not all of the decks were utilized as some of our members were not able to join due to conflicting events and family gathering.
