Team Italy’s innovative Temur Megamorph deck was one of the keys in their success in the Team unified Standard and eventually winning the 2015 World Magic Cup last Sunday. I think the deck idea was shared with the other teams like USA, Brazil and Canada as most of their members was from the ChannelFireball group.

In every new set of Magic released, there is one product that they have which is the Event Deck. This is a Standard legal 60-card deck with a 15-card sideboard and represents a certain possible archetype in the format. In the recent released Dragons of Tarkir, their Event deck represents the Temur clan and the build is somehow similar to the Temur Monsters list.

The current premade list would lack consistency because of the unnecessary one-ofs so we’ll just replace them with the needed components. The auto four-ofs critters in the deck would be the following:

• Heir of the Wilds
• Savage Knuckleblade
• Thunderbreak Regent

Next is we replace Golden Hind with Rattleclaw Mystic for better manafixing. We also cut Yasova and add one more Boon Satyr. Mogis’s Warhound, Polis Crusher and Mistcutter Hydra will be removed to give slots to the cards mentioned on the list above.

As for the spells, Arc Lightning, Roast and Wild Slash looks more to fit in the sideboard so we cut those and add more Crater’s Claw. Two Temur Charms is a good number so we just have it as is. Stubborn Denial looks to be more of a maindeck card nowadays because of a lot of noncreature spells (i.e. Hordeling Outburst) in the metagame. Two copies of that spell would suffice. Outpost Siege can be a good one-of in the main to help the deck in the late game, though I am thinking to replace it with Chandra, Pyromaster.

The lands would also need some fixing by adding Temples and an upgrade to the fetchland Wooded Foothills.

There is still a sort-of budget constraint in this build as we did not include Stormbreath Dragon which is a trump card for most Abzan matchups. As of this posting, Thunderbreak Regent has already shoot up in price to around 8-10 dollars each. We can substitute to the cheaper Ashcloud Phoenix for the four-drop slot or we can have it like two copies of each or 3 Phoenixes-1 Regent ratio.

The recent results in Grand Prix Santiago saw the success of the Temur decks in the Standard metagame. The proof was three of the archetype got into the Top 8 of the event though none of them got the trophy. Nevertheless, it just elevated the status of the deck among the ranks of archetypes in Standard.
