As part of the technical working group on the data gathering of the tourism and heritage sites of Iloilo City and in preparation of the Tourism Development Plan, I was able to visit these various places in the city that were eyed for this project. One of which that is in the tourists’ radar is Casa Mariquit.

For the brief history of this heritage house (quoting from Trip Advisor),
Casa Mariquit is one of the oldest heritage houses in Santa Isabel St., Jaro, Iloilo City, and was built in 1803 by a banker, Ramon Javellana. Then it became the home of his granddaughter, Mariquit, and her husband Fernando Lopez who also served as the Vice President of the Philippines in the 1950’s.

We visited the place in our second day of data gathering and it was mid-morning after our route from Jaro Plaza. It was somewhat cloudy as we entered the vicinity and we were guided by the housekeeper.
