For today’s Standard War of the Spark deck feature, here is a list that revolves around the basic definition of value in one particular card and that is the Black sorcery Command the Dreadhorde. I saw the deck in action in one of the recent local tournaments and the card value from planeswalkers while curving on Explore creatures for early clock is just impressive. Its only drawback would probably the mana fixing which can be easily handled by its variance of dual lands.

For today’s War of the Spark Standard Deck, I show to you guys an interesting aggro deck build that recently finished in the Top 8 of the MTGO Competitive Standard League. Being a fan of these colors, it is nice to see a new version with cards from the set that is dominated by planeswalkers. This build actually reminded me of the Prowess deck in Khans of Tarkir Standard or the Heroic deck in Theros. Check out the decklist below:

19 CREATURES
4 Adanto Vanguard
4 Dreadhorde Arcanist
4 Feather, the Redeemed
3 Legion Warboss
4 Tenth District Legionnaire

14 INSTANTS and SORC.
3 Angrath’s Rampage
4 Defiant Strike
4 Reckless Rage
3 Sheltering Light

4 OTHER SPELLS
4 Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord

23 LANDS
4 Blood Crypt
4 Clifftop Retreat
3 Dragonskull Summit
4 Godless Shrine
4 Isolated Chapel
4 Sacred Foundry

Sideboard
1 Angrath’s Rampage
2 Deafening Clarion
3 Duress
3 Healing Grace
1 Lava Coil
2 Mortify
3 Tocatli Honor Guard

The breakout decks last Starcity Games Standard Open was sort of expected: it was planeswalker-based. AS shown in the Top 8 decklists, almost 50 percent of the decks opted for a planeswalker tapout control strategy to overcome major matchups. The wining decklist proved to be most effective was the combination of Teferi, Narset and Sarkhan.

The deck was piloted by Zan Syed and here below is his winning list:

Planeswalkers (18)
2 Karn, Scion of Urza
4 Narset, Parter of Veils
3 Saheeli, Sublime Artificer
4 Sarkhan the Masterless
1 Teferi, Hero of Dominaria
4 Teferi, Time Raveler

Spells (17)
1 Lightning Strike
4 Opt
4 Shock
3 Spell Pierce
2 Mox Amber
3 Deafening Clarion

Lands (25)
1 Clifftop Retreat
3 Glacial Fortress
4 Hallowed Fountain
4 Interplanar Beacon
2 Mobilized District
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Steam Vents
3 Sulfur Falls

Sideboard
4 Legion Warboss
3 Prison Realm
3 Dovin’s Veto
2 Lyra Dawnbringer
1 Deafening Clarion
2 Lava Coil
