In the current Magic: the Gathering (MTG) Standard format, there are notable Uncommon cards that became more popular in gameplay thus getting more value than its usual pricing in the trading card market. The probable reason is the development of power creep in the new cards wherein some old Rare cards were now surpassed by new cards in the lower rarity category.
In today’s blog post, I will share and highlight Uncommons that had gotten a high market value because of its use and gameplay in the Standard format. We are going to start off with:
Aftermath Analyst – The card’s previous Standard deck archetype, Temur Control, was popular in the format but the rotation of the land fetch cycle from Streets of New Capenna had disassembled the build. However, some new graveyard shenanigans have held this card as its potential component, thus the price value still ranges around 3 to 4 USD.
Bitter Triumph – Black spot removals hold a default part of Black-based decks in Standard and this card’s drawback is more of a benefit, especially in Reanimator decks. This kills your best threat while discarding an Atraxa to reanimate later on. Two-for-one value. The card’s current price is 2 to 3 USD.
Cut Down – This card has a better value than the previously mentioned card because the lesser the mana value to cast, the more it goes to a higher gameplay. With the aggro decks still lingering in most archetypes in the format, this will surely go to kill its first victim as early as turn one. 2 to 3 USD price range.
Deep-Cavern Bat – Partnering with Black’s spot removals are hand disruption and this creature does it more. Having a flyer for evasion and lifelink for damage races makes it difficult for some aggro decks to cope with the controllish setting of Black decks in Standard. 2.50 to 3 USD price range.
Haywire Mite – This Brother’s War artifact insect is still relevant in the format because of the utility and lifegain benefit it provides. There are several noncreature artifacts and enchantments in the current metagame that this feeds on so some Green decks add it to their sideboard list. 2.60 to 3 USD currently priced.
Heartfire Hero – Mono Red’s all-star one-drop that can kill opponents by as early as Turn 2 with a good combination of spells. It is more than a Heroic critter but also a good threat even with just regularly attacking. The market price at 3 to 4 USD.
Kami of Whispered Hopes – Selesnya Counter decks are still relevant archetypes due to this card. Its new components now may lean toward Auras-based strategies. Current price: is 2 to 3 USD.
Monstrous Rage – Red’s ability to deal huge chunks of damage in Standard is mainly the reason why this card is auto-included in their deck builds. Monastery Swiftspear and Heartfire Hero are its best targets and an added Monster Role token to suffice improved damage output. Priced at 2.30 to 3 USD currently.
Return the Favor – Red’s sideboard option for handling opponents’ shenanigans makes this card the best candidate. I have yet to see an actual gameplay with this card used but maybe its current price value of 2 USD makes its playability more relevant.
Relic of Legends – Legends Deck still exists in the format but has somewhat been hosed by cheap mass removals such as Temporary Lockdown. Still, this card as their major component maintained its value at 2.50 to 3 USD.
Spelunking – The card has seen gameplay in variants of Ramp midrange decks and due to its flexibility, even accommodating a five-color build, makes its current price of 2.23 to 2.5 USD stable.
Do watch out for these cards and you can also constantly monitor other Uncommons in the new Duskmourn set and observe their use and gameplay in the Standard format. More so if you are playing Standard in MTG Arena or MTGO.
