The Izzet guild has been the archetype that I have enjoyed making deck brews lately. Either it’s for submission for Reconstructed or just plain fun brew, the guild can provide lots of options. For this article, I’ll be talking about Niv Mizzet’s little hyper brother.
Here is the list:
Lands
1 Cavern of Souls
4 Sulfur Falls
4 Steam Vents
6 Mountain
1 Desolate Lighthouse
8 Island
Creatures
4 Hypersonic Dragon
4 Snapcaster Mage
1 Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius
Spells
4 Divination
2 Jace, Architect of Thought
4 Syncopate
3 Flames of the Firebrand
4 Pillar of Flame
2 Think Twice
2 Cyclonic Rift
2 Bonfire of the Damned
2 Mizzium Mortars
2 Dissipate
It looks like a basic Izzet strategy but we are looking to gain advantage of Hypersonic Dragon’s third ability. Divination and Flames fits on this purpose as well as Mizzium Mortars and Bonfire. Snapcaster Mage makes it more efficient.
Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius gives you another win option and Jace helps stall the board and setup your hand.
Basing on my local metagame, I am pretty sure the Syncopates will be very effective on stopping Thragtusks and other Selesnya late big spell strategies. I’ll add this on my list of playtest decks as soon as the dragons are complete, and also Jace.
Until next post.
