Black White Blinking in Standard

Black-White-Blinking-in-Standard

It is Orzhov week at the mothership and column articles are themed for the Black-White guild, from deck techs to Gatecrash sealed strategies. One column in which I am fond of sending contributions is ReConstructed by Gavin Verhey.

Their topic for the week was exploring Standard decks based on the Orzhov colors. The main deck article was on the card tech Immortal Servitude. I did submit as usual, and good thing it was chosen among the Honorable Mentions.

Here is my list which I call Orzhov Blink Aggro.

2 Azorius Arrester
2 Captain of the Watch
4 Diregraf Ghoul
1 Disciple of Bolas
2 Fiend Hunter
4 Geralf’s Messenger
4 Gravecrawler
4 Obzedat, Ghost Council
4 Restoration Angel

3 Cloudshift
2 Conjurer’s Closet
4 Orzhov Charm

1 Cavern of Souls
4 Godless Shrine
4 Isolated Chapel
4 Orzhov Guildgate
5 Plains
6 Swamp

The deck strategy, obviously, is to abuse the CITB triggers of your creatures with blink effects while applying early pressure. The Zombie Critter package was my choice to effectively curve out in the first three turns and follow that up with late-game bombs like Obzedat and Captain of the Watch.

Cheap removals included are Orzhov Charms and Fiend Hunters which also benefit Blink shenanigans.

The tech card in the list is Conjurer’s Closet, which at most gives your critters two triggers in a turn. It makes Geralf’s Messenger never leave the battlefield by continuously denying its +1/+1 counter via Undying.

If given the chance, I might pilot this list on my local FNM. It looked fun blinking creatures here and there giving your opponents a hard time dealing with your board position.

You might want to suggest preferred cards for the sideboard or maybe other ideas for the main deck so just leave a message in the comment box below.

Thanks for reading and until the next post.
