The planned Magic: the Gathering tournaments this weekend is for the Standard Showdown type of events. Aside from the usual Friday Night Magic, these are usually highly attended by the local players because of the special showdown boosters which can contain foil versions of priced cards in the format. One time a friend opened a foil Karn, Scion of Urza which he got to sold at P3000 online. The possibilities are endless for the hopefuls so most are usually taking the time to join these tournaments. Anyhow, here is the detailed schedule for this week:

Non-working holidays turned out to be another opportunity for the Magic Iloilo hobbyist to battle and participate in a local Friday Night Magic tournament. Last Friday’s turnout is sure to be highlighted as 18 players attended the event. It was still four-round of Swiss with a Top 6 cutoff for the prizes of GRN booster packs and FNM promo foils.

I piloted Boros Angels this time and got fortunate enough to finish in 4th place with a 3-1 record, that is after a few lousy draws in my matchup to Jeskai control in the second round. My teammate Ace finished third with Selesnya Tokens and not surprising as the top 2 players were both in Jeskai Control. The metagame that night would probably revolve around Mono-Blue, Mono Red, Golgari Midrange, Jeskai and Boros decks.

Iloilo’s renowned Dinagyang festival will be this coming weekend and that may affect the regular schedule of the weekly MTG tournaments. That is because of a few road closures and rerouting, given that our main local gamestore, ProRei’s place

, is located in the city proper near Robinsons Iloilo. As of this posting, Friday’s FNM may or may not push through, but players may attempt to drop by and play despite the traffic. Saturday Standard I think will be canceled. For Critical Hit, the Modern FNM will likely go as scheduled.

Here are the recent tourney events regarding the Commander format at our local Magic: the Gathering Iloilo community. I have been trying to make it possible that the format will be part of the weekly tournament schedule, and so far the player attendance has been good, even at a minimum. Last Sunday gathered seven players and here is the tourney results after 3 rounds of gameplay:

The event was held at IBAM in Marymart Mall, the newest venue for our local events. The place can currently accommodate eight players at max and I am working with the owner on how to further expand if ever more people will be playing.
