Opening booster packs is one of the most exciting aspects of trading card games such as Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, and other collectible card games. The anticipation of revealing each card creates a thrilling experience for both casual players and collectors. However, many players often wonder about their actual chances of pulling valuable or highly sought-after cards from a random booster pack.

The odds of opening a “good” card are largely determined by the card’s rarity. Most booster packs contain a combination of common, uncommon, and rare cards, with some packs also featuring mythic rares, foil cards, or special showcase versions. I personally buy Magic: The Gathering booster packs with the enjoyment of trying my luck to hit the good cards specific to a particular set. I also buy booster packs from various sources: one via live selling on Facebook, one from Shopee MTG stores with added discount vouchers, and some from our local game store Pro Reis Place here in Iloilo City.

Much more that pushes me to buy are the discount promos once you have reached a certain amount. That plus a few shipping voucher discounts, and you will have the package purchased free on delivery.

I had some casual booster pack purchases from the online Magic: the Gathering stores on Shopee whenever I have some extra budget to spare or I found good deals posted by these specific stores. Also, this was not my first time buying from the particular store but due to their consistent sale on the price of the single assorted set booster packs, I was always convinced to buy some batch of packs to be opened on video.

The Shopee store is by Neutral Grounds Philippines which is also the primary and largest distributor of Magic: the Gathering sealed products in the country. I do hope though that they update the online store with the new good deals of the recent MTG sets. Anyways, the recent pack’s purchase which I did a booster battle were from the sets Core Set 2019 (M19) and Theros Beyond Death (THB). There are several good and prized cards from these sets that I tried to hit with the openings.

It has always been a temptation in having to open Magic: the Gathering booster packs on live sell. That is because there are certain sets that have these lottery cards that are highly priced in value on the trading card market. The best examples are those Expedition lands found in Battle for Zendikar and Oath of the Gatewatch booster packs in which some of us were lucky to pull some back in the day.

In the recent MTG set Stryxhaven, School of Mages, there is the Japanese version of their Mystical Archive sub-set in which the frame and art are inspired to that by ancient Japanese artwork and form. Much more on why this version is higher than that of the English one. In one of the recent live sales on Facebook done by the Hivemind group, they have the promo of four Japanese Stryxhaven set booster packs for 1000 pesos only. I and my friend Floyd got tempted by this and to have several packs opened because of this and our goal was to open a Japanese Mystical Archive Demonic Tutor. You can check its current price value as why it was our main goal in opening the set booster packs.

The package arrived days later, and I did an unboxing video on how we fared with the live sell pack openings embedded below.

The chances, I always aim for the chances. That is maybe the main reason why I still stick to opening booster packs such as set boosters from old release sets as I am on the main objective on that: the chance to open the good cards, Wandering Emperor, Meathook Massacre, etc. Going with the calculations, the chances of Mythics in a booster box is already low enough, much more on the specific card such as those mentioned.

Also, maybe it is just a good feeling to see those booster packs opening and not minding later on the bill that I had to pay. As such, I try to lessen the shipping cost by consigning the booster packs from the live sell stores. Good thing that my good friend and head of the MTG Allegiance group Sir Scott did the favor of gathering the packs from the other game stores such as The Forge Hobby Place and The Hivemind.

When the package arrived, it was like cargo that consisted of two booster boxes. That was like a small mountain of stacks of booster packs if placed top on top. Just imagine how it looks as to how many packs are there from Kamigawa Neon Dynasty, Streets of New Capenna, Stryxhaven, and Innistrad: Midnight Hunt.

Anyways, I did the usual thing of recording the unboxing, and here below is the first part of part 1 of this massive live sell hauls.

The opening of the Magic: the Gathering Set Booster packs on live sell is still ongoing for me despite our Standard card pool in almost 100% complete. This might be on testing my luck despite some of these other cards being already available and on hand. Maybe with the chance of selling them to the other players in the community? Or just to collect the extras in preparation for the next Standard rotation? Or maybe it is just The List cards in these set booster packs that I am trying to hit?

I did some testing again in some of the recent UltraElectroMagnetic Shop live selling on Facebook and got some packs opened. Along with it I also asked them to include some sealed ones for me to open in the video. These are packs from the recent Magic: the Gathering sets, and the store assured us that the packs from the newly opened boxes so they are basically box-fresh boosters.

Being branded with luck in simple ways such as opening a Magic: the Gathering booster pack and getting good cards are quite rare. There are factors such as probability in the ways where a certain good Rare or Mythic card is found in that particular booster in a specific location in the box.

MTG peeps say terms like “mapping” a booster box to check but I don’t think it is reasonable for every product of a new set. Some have other bizarre ways to do it but I still think it is just the randomization of the cards on each booster pack while it is being manufactured. As per the luck factor? Nothing else can be reasoned out with it.

Buying a few Magic: the Gathering booster packs and hoping to hit the good value cards of that set is more of plainly very lucky. If not, then it is just a futile attempt. That is because the chances of pulling the cards depends on what cards were already opened from the other booster packs. If it is a freshly-opened box, then there is a ratio of a certain pack that will have that card.

For example, a Mythic card like Meathook Massacre may or may not appear in a set booster box. There is a chance of opening just a few booster packs and you will get it but knowing that Mythic cards ratio of pulling is very limited. You may need to spend to at least twelve booster packs out of 36 to hit at least one Mythic card.

Any who, today’s vlog video I am sharing is my st**** or futile attempt to hit the Meathook with only four Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Set booster packs. This is just me trying my luck as I have noticed pulling some good cards on a LGS live selling on Facebook. I am testing on this opening video as I have checked that the current card’s value is at P2000 or 40+ USD.

I have tried doing the Magic: the Gathering booster packs battle as other MTG vloggers do in their videos but because of monetary budget constraints, it is only limited to three packs per batch. I am doing this now for the latest set Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty and most people know that set boosters are very popular and in demand because of their features of art cards and guaranteed foils.
