Why Has Indomitable Archangel Lost Its Value in MTG?

Indomitable Archangel once offered an appealing combination of flying pressure and artifact protection, making it a potentially useful option for artifact-focused decks in Magic: The Gathering. However, its market value can decline as players reassess its competitive relevance, the availability of alternatives, and demand for older cards in the current metagame.

One major reason is reprints increasing supply. Indomitable Archangel has appeared in multiple products, including Modern Masters 2015 and Neon Dynasty Commander, giving players more opportunities to obtain copies and reducing the scarcity that can support a card’s price. The cheapest tracked nonfoil printing was around $0.38 in September 2026.

Another factor is that its ability has a meaningful limitation: shroud prevents anyone from targeting your artifacts, including you. Although this protects key artifacts from targeted removal, it can also stop you from using beneficial spells and abilities on your own permanents. As a four-mana creature that needs at least three artifacts to activate Metalcraft, it may be less attractive than cards that provide immediate value or more flexible protection.

Finally, demand for Indomitable Archangel appears relatively modest outside dedicated artifact strategies. Its low ranking among commonly played Commander cards and the lack of recent competitive archetypes built around it suggest that fewer players are seeking copies for their decks.

Without a renewed role in a popular strategy, its price is likely to remain modest despite its appealing Angel design and useful artifact-protection effect.
