Blue Devotion in Magic Origins

I have written an article before on the possible return of Blue Devotion in the Standard metagame and was even featured in the weekly column ReConstructed at the mothership site. It later on evolved to a build with splash of Green for Collected Company.

The upcoming Magic Origins, same with the previously released sets, has provided card options for this deck archetype. First of is this flashy new Merfolk, Harbinger of the Tides:

As a second-turn drop, it can randomly bounce opponents’ Elvish Mystics, or Monastery Swiftspears while providing two Devotion count to Thassa and Master of Waves. In the late game, it can be a Flashy blocker while it bounces off the bigger threat. It also benefits the condition of Collected Company.

Next is the new X cost-counterspell, Clash of Wills:

While it looks less powerful than Dissolve, the fact that it can counter on turn two is very relevant in most games. It is like Silumgar’s Scorn without revealing a Dragon.
