My First SD Gunpla Project

Hi all, sorry for the late blog update. I’ve been busy doing stuffs at work and attending events recently that I forgot about this blog. Anyhow, this post is to update you about my latest Gunpla project and in particular the first one on the SD (Super Deformed) model kit. I’ve been wanting to try a different model kit to build and since I haven’t mastered my painting, panel lining and other effects stuff, I decided to improve it further on an SD kit.

For a quick background of the history of the SD Gundam, here’s the link from Wikipedia.

I bought this kit from an acquaintance in the Gundam Iloilo FB group. He was selling extra kits as he got no time to build them (maybe due to work). I chose from the current available kits in his list, but since I am on a trial stage, I decided to work first on a Zaku II. He didn’t have it on hand but gladly told me that he will buy one in the local store there in SG before he goes home here in Iloilo. Initially, my plan is to buy an HG version of this kit but I can’t seem to find one on the online stores so I just stick with the SD version.

As for the build, I was looking for a spray can paint that will match the camouflage Green color of the armor. I was not very lucky to find an exact one so I decided to revert the color and decided to Ivory with White as the primer. The rest of the armor color remained as is and I just updated the black parts with the Flat Black paint.

Here are some photos I took while on the process of building this kit (which I’ve finished just hours ago).

I have already separated the armors here from the runners and placed them in the plastic bags

Here are the armor parts after painted with the White primer and the Ivory color. I still suck on balancing the spray of the paint on all the areas.

A few more assembled parts.

The completely assembled SD Zaku II.

AS you will notice, I did not put it his weapons as I am still waiting for the Gunmetal Tamiya spray can paint that I bought for the new kits. To conclude, I am happy with the turn out of the color combination despite not following the original color theme. Hopefully I can implement the same paint procedure on my future projects, and maybe improve with the right color combinations.

I guess that’s just about it on this post. Until next time guys.
