REDAS Software Training Day 5

As of this posting, the training has already wrapped up earlier today but I just wanted to share the importance of having this training with the LGU technical personnel and which can help later on in the data gathering and analysis. This will then generate a report for reference to various plans of the City Planning and Development Office and other related offices.

Day 5 started with the Introduction to UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Survey, with the type of drones used for surveying hazard damage assessment. There are also existing Memorandum Circular that should be followed by each person that would want to fly a drone.

The personnel from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau discussed the Rain-Induced Landslide and Flooding in the PH in a detailed fashion and I got to learn new terms related to the topic such as Creep, Debris flow, Mudflow, and Debris Avalanche. Of course, they are also used in Magic cards but what the heck.

Anyhow, we have also learned the most causes of flooding and on Geohazard Mapping. Next was the Introduction of PHIVOLCS-REDAS Earthquake and Tsunami Alerting Module, with PHIVOLCS Monitoring Setup, and PHIVOLCS Warning Procedures. I think the details here can be found at their website in a complete guide manual.

Next up was the Tsunami Warning Announcement Diagram which also was an inclusion of the main REDAS software. There is a Warning Announcement Document that can be used as a basis in case an actual tsunami event happens.

The next talk, Earthquake Risk Assessment Methodology, is to be used in identifying building earthquake damage levels for risk assessment. The speaker presented the case study of the Bohol Earthquake, in the assessment of the structures types in the area.

They have also explained the Earthquake Impact Assessment Calculation Method- the
Risk Computations Using Survey Data from the REDAS software. Another set of exercises were then performed with the ground shaking tab of the Seismic Hazards and Risk Assessment tool function.

To conclude, it was another jam-packed day of lectures and hands-on though I would need to get a copy of all of the pdf of the presentations so as to compile simpler steps of the process of hazard assessment. Ma’am Donna would be the primary source.

That is a wrap, until the next post.
