Writing and Knowing your Audience

During the online marketing and freelancing seminar that I have attended last June, the speaker mentioned knowing the target audience first before engaging to be more efficient and encouraging. Your audience is your buyers. The term “Know your audience” is knowing who you are talking to, knowing their needs, desires, and pain. This somehow correlates with niche-marketing in terms of finding the right niche to market your products or services.

The goal is similar to owning a buyer’s persona/avatar and this is sort of taking the role. That is, looking at their perspective.

Another way is to check the basic demographics. Where is the buyer’s location? What is their usual behavior and its pattern in terms of daily engagement at work or home? What are their activities during leisure time? What is their social status?

That will then be followed by ‘humanizing’ your buyers’ persona. Give them a name, create a backstory for them, understand their behavior and patterns, and social status. You should also take note of their pain, needs, and desires.

Do remember that the main purpose is to create engagement and this is the first important step to do so. I will end this blog post with the statement, “Write for your buyer, not for the search engine.”
