As for every new Magic: the Gathering set’s full card spoilers are fully revealed officially, we usually go for the Mythic cards as to what their potential (Standard-worthy?) is in some of the formats of the game. We also check on their individual card prizes, if ever we get to open one of them, and if we can sell them to the hype or not. Considering that they are the money-grab of every new set.
As I have observed though, in the past, some Mythics cards get hype during the spoiler season and just plainly failed when used in metagame decks, for example, on Top-Tier Esper or Grixis decks in Standard. The usual routine is that we see some candidates, discuss their uses, pros, and cons, and do the playtesting once the full set is out. They often fall behind our expectations and become an option card for the deck. The price drop then follows.
Another test that I have noticed is when a card becomes a staple component in some old formats like Modern or Legacy, it usually retains a fixed high price, and that increases when a certain deck archetype that uses it got a Top tournament finish. In the worst, they get banned. See Oko.
Anyways, back to today’s topic. I made a Youtube video discussing some of the Mythics from The Brother’s War set and did the steps mentioned above. There are some candidates for Standard, but then again, we will see once actual games happen.
