Personal Update on W/B Tokens in Standard

GP Kuala Lumpur will be in less than a week, and I am getting busy on the preparations. Not to mention that I was just recovering from Asthma. The sickness got me to rest at home since Tuesday so I just had to resort on reading articles during those times. Hopefully these antibiotics can get me 100% back on track.

For some deck updates, I decided to make some changes again on my White Black Tokens list that I’ll be using for the Grand Prix. After playing on yesterday’s Friday Night Magic, here is my current list:

W/B Tokens by Mark Ian Alloso
Lands
4 Isolated Chapel
13 Plains
4 Swamp
3 Vault of the Archangel

Creatures
2 Hero of Bladehold
4 Blade Splicer
4 Doomed Traveler

Spells
4 Gather the Townsfolk
4 Intangible Virtue
4 Honor of the Pure
4 Lingering Souls
2 Mortarpod
4 Oblivion Ring
1 Elspeth Tirel
2 Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
1 Divine Offering

The changes:

Maindeck Divine Offering – Sword of War & Peace can blow you out quickly (and the most popular sword at the moment) so I had to make ways to deal with it pre-board. Other targets can be Shrine of Burning Rage, Phyrexian Metamorph, Birthing Pod, other Golem tokens, Sphere of the Suns, etc.

The switch to Blade Splicer – Midnight Haunting is awesome yes, but all you need at the moment are critters that can block creatures with Sword and Blade Splicer can provide you that. Plus, the Golem can survive Slagstorm with the help of Intangible Virtue.

Playset of Oblivion Rings – same reason with Divine Offering, O-rings are just too generic answer not to include four in the main deck.

The sideboard is still undergoing changes as I will check with this weekend’s major tournament as what new deck archetypes or updates might come up. I am thinking of including Stony Silence against Ratchet Bombs.

Still, I’d be doing matchup checks on each top deck to know the flaws of my current list.

Until next post and thanks for reading.
