A “Domain Control” deck is a type of Magic: The Gathering deck that focuses on utilizing the “domain” mechanic and control elements. The domain mechanic is based on cards that care about the number of basic land types you control. In Standard, this typically means the five basic land types: Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest.
To maximize the domain mechanic, you aim to control as many of these basic land types as possible and gain value out of them with your spells.
The recent Standard metagame has again opened the support for this archetype, starting with the Dominaria United set Domain mechanic. The other sets provided the needed components such as the Trilands from Streets of New Capenna, the mana ramp with the Invasion of Zendikar from March of the Machines, and the top curve creature value and threat Atraxa in Phyrexia: All will be One.
Just like other typical control list, you’ll need a way to close out the game once you’ve established control. This could involve powerful creatures like Atraxa and Etali or other win conditions that are well-supported by the deck’s resources.
Here below is the Domain Control Standard deck version played at the recently concluded Worlds XXIX and piloted by Brazilian Pro Player Wily Edel.
