THB Mono-White Devotion Deck Detailed

As I have mentioned in a previous blog post, the Standard Mono-White Devotion is a potential archetype for the upcoming metagame with Theros Beyond Death. Today, I will be discussing the card choices in the decklist I made. Sharing the list again below with a few slight changes.

Creatures
4 Alseid of Life’s Bounty
3 Daxos, Blessed by the Sun
4 Daybreak Chimera
2 Eidolon of Obstruction
2 Hushbringer
2 Giant Killer
3 Heliod, Sun-Crowned
2 Reverent Hoplite
2 Taranika, Akroan Veteran
2 Venerated Loxodon
3 Law-Rune Enforcer

Planeswalkers
1 Ajani, Strength of the Pride
1 Elspeth, Sun’s Nemesis
2 Gideon Blackblade

Spells
2 Conclave Tribunal
1 Phalanx Tactics
1 Unbreakable Formation

Lands
3 Castle Ardenvale
20 Plains

The relevant creatures here along with others that have specific roles in the deck’s gameplay. We start with Daxos as the two drops which grant two Devotion and gains you 1 life for each creature you control that enters the battlefield or dies. It works well with Heliod, Sun-Crowned which triggers a +1/+1 counter for each life gain.

Daybreak Chimera gains well with the Devotion strategy as you can cast it one mana less for a maximum of three Devotion. It is basically a 3/3 flyer for two mana. Alseid of Life’s Bounty is a one-drop with a lot of roles in deck. It will protect your best creatures while also attacking for Lifelink triggers in the early turns. Law-Rune Enforcer and Giant Killer are you late-game tappers for potential blockers while maintaining your creature curve.

Eidolon of Obstruction is to delay relevant planeswalker activations while Hushbringer is a tricky card to include in the main deck. That is because it can also affect your creatures. There are matches though that it will be relevant such as against Mono-Black Devotion wherein it can stop their Gray Merchant drain life trigger.

Venerated Loxodon is a given part of the deck to pump up your dudes while Reverent Hoplite is your version of Cloudgoat Ranger to even widen your army. Gideon is a good White planeswalker to fit in various card interactions while being a 4/4 beater by himself. The one-ofs Elspeth and Ajani are again for specific situations but mainly used as support planeswalkers.

Wrapping up the list are the pump spells and removals in Conclave Tribunal to answer specific enchantments or planeswalkers. The land setup is 95% basic land Plains to maintain the play consistency.

As for the sideboard plan, you can choose generic and on-point spot removals such as Devout Decree and Glass Casket and also on creatures like Apostle of Purifying Light.

I guess that is about it for this Mono White Devotion deck discussion. Until the next blog post.
