Last Wednesday’s Standard Pauper event saw 9 participants ready to battle with their various deck archetype and that means a four Swiss rounds tournament. I decided to play the Blue Red Tempo deck referenced from the recent major tournament Standard Pauper on MTGO and made a few maindeck changes. The summary of my matchups were as follows:
Round 1 vs Mono Green, won 2-0
Round 2 vs Red Green Landfall, won 2-0
Round 3 vs Red Green Landfall, won 2-1
Round 4 vs White Blue Aggro, won 2-1
What I’ve noticed on the deck is that it can get aggressive early as long as you get to hit your second and third turn drops, for example a Mage Ring Bully followed up by a Valakut Predator. Also, you need to play around opponent’s removals as most of your creatures are light on toughness. You can rely on Ojutai’s Summons and burn spells for your late game win condition and board out some Anticipates and Treasure Cruise. Boiling earth is best for token shenanigans but be wary if they have open mana for a mass pump spell.
I might be splashing Black for few spot removals and a solid threat in the form of Gurmag Angler. I will be revising the decklist this coming week and hopefully it will be completed by Wednesday. By the way, here are the Top 3 finishers of the event:
1st, Mark Ian (Blue Red Tempo)
2nd, Arthur (Red Green Landfall)
3rd, Allen Paul (Blue Red Tempo)
Until the next post.
