Yesterday I had the time to went back to Pro Reis place after my study session at a hub in Molo Timawa. I initially went there to sell some uncommon to Ralph (the owner of the famous Charlie’s Burgers) and saw that they have already started Round 1.
I had three poolmates competing for the prized booster packs and playmat and so I checked if who was able to make it to the Top 8. As expected, it was only Ace playing Esper Control that qualified and he was playing his quarterfinals matchup as I arrived. It was a Mono Red opponent which we expected to be a hard one for the deck to overcome but fortunately, he did. It was a slow climb though.
At the other side of the bracket, I saw Speedy playing Grixis Control against another Mono Red player, Mossy. There is an active Experimental Frenzy in play which the Grixis was unable to remove. Turns later, he got overwhelmed by direct damage and cheap hasty creatures. Mossy proceeds to the finals while he waits for the other semifinal match to finish.
Ace’s next matchup was Mervin with his Azorious Aggro. I missed their games as I went to Robinsons to buy some stuff. I got back again to find out that Ace won the match.
And so the Finals will be decided between Ace and Mossy. However, Ace opted for the deal to have the booster packs over the WAR Champion Playmat. Mossy agreed and he finished in the rankings in first place with the playmat as a trophy. Here are the rest of the Top 8 players after the final standings.
1st, Mossy – Mono Red
2nd, Ace – Esper Control
3rd, Mervin – Azorious Aggro
4th, Speedy – Grixis Control
5th, Franco – Mono Red
6th, Ralph – Esper Control
7th, JD – Mono Red
8th, Emerson – Mono Blue Tempo
Here is the Top 8 players pic as provided to me by Emerson.
Next tourney report would be Sunday’s Planeswalker Weekend event hosted by Nth Dimension: Comics and Games. Until next time, ciao.
