Last Saturday was another major event for the MtG Iloilo community as we held the Khans of Tarkir Gameday tournament. Twenty-five players were in attendance to play Magic: the Gathering Khans Standard, and the tournament started somewhat on time even with the slight delay due

to the TO’s request that the decklists should be provided. We should take note of it next time and prepare them beforehand. The prizes at stake were the Gameday Champion playmat, foil promo cards Utter End for the top eight, and Khans of Tarkir Booster packs.

A total of five Swiss rounds were played to determine the top 8 players and was followed by a single elimination best-of-three T8 playoffs. Thanks to the decklists, the local metagame was determined and it was divided as follows:

The top eight decks were almost comprised of midrange Abzan and Mardu decks along with some Green w/ Red Devotion and Jeskai. The eventual winner was Gian Occeña who played Mardu midrange. He defeated Herbert Barabona who piloted Jeskai burn, two games to one. The rest of the top eight players and their decks were as follows:

Cheljohn Deanon – Red Green Midrange
Rei Coo – Black White Tokens
Mark Lawrence Tubola – Abzan Midrange
Marco Gonzalez – Abzan Midrange
Rino Jules Morales – Mono Blue Robots
Yammy Equiña – Red Green Aggro
