As we all know and aware of in the current Standard (unless you are living under a rock), Blue White Humans has been one of the top decks in the meta. Even with the popularity of the other archetype in its colors (the Delver Blade), it is still the deck choice of most players who’d want to play aggro.
Here is a latest build from the recent Star City Games Open Standard – Los Angeles. It was piloted by Konan Ahmed which got second place in that event.
Maindeck
4 Champion of the Parish
1 Doomed Traveler
2 Fiend Hunter
4 Geist of Saint Traft
3 Gideon’s Lawkeeper
3 Grand Abolisher
2 Hero of Bladehold
1 Leonin Relic-Warder
4 Mirran Crusader
2 Angelic Destiny
4 Honor of the Pure
4 Mana Leak
2 Oblivion Ring
1 Sword of War and Peace
4 Glacial Fortress
2 Island
3 Moorland Haunt
10 Plains
4 Seachrome Coast
Sideboard
2 Dismember
1 Fiend Hunter
2 Gut Shot
1 Leonin Relic-Warder
1 Negate
1 Oblivion Ring
1 Revoke Existence
2 Sword of Feast and Famine
1 Sword of War and Peace
3 Timely Reinforcements
It is the usual list of curving into Champion, Abolisher and Mirran Crusader. Though the Champion can go large early, the popularity of Vapor Snag just nulls it. Which is why I don’t personally prefer to have it in the deck. This may change with the release of Gather the Townsfolk but we’ll see.
Anyway, the blog post’s title is that because I am looking to innovate a bit on this archetype. We know that the Bladehold Hero and the St Traft Geist are both powerful attackers. The problem is that they need to attack and one major setback is the opponent has one full turn to answer it. My list today is to try at least to null that.
Here it is:
3 Doomed Traveler
4 Hero of Bladehold
2 Grand Abolisher
4 Geist of St. Traft
3 Mirran Crusader
1 Geist Honored Monk
2 Fient Hunter
2 Sword of War and Peace
2 Swiftfoot Boots
3 Honor of the Pure
3 Midnight Haunting
2 Oblivion Ring
1 Dismember
1 Mortarpod
3 Mana Leak
4 Seachrome Coast
4 Glacial Fortress
3 Moorland Haunt
1 Island
12 Plains
Notice something different? Yep, that’s it. Its the Swiftfoot Boots. What does it do? It does death (just kidding). No, it gives haste and hexproof. These are essential abilities at just an extra cost of one colorless mana. This added support equipment makes the geists and the heroes more efficient attackers, in addition of equipping Sword of War and Peace.
Though it might not look like a full Humans list, the addition of Midnight Haunting is needed to counter Delver Blade, and you get ahead of p/t due to Honor of the Pure.
I’m not hoping of any god draws with the boots but we’ll see how it goes on future playtests.
Until next time and thanks for reading.
