I submitted before a decklist on one of the weekly theme on Gavin Verhey’s ReConstructed column. It was a budget version of Red Burn for Standard in which I included Commune with Lave as a late game gas. Sadly, it was not included in the honorable mentions list. Anyhow, I will re-share the deck tech again and this time with a little upgrade from Magic Origins.
Commune Red by Mark Ian Alloso
Standard
Lands
4 Wooded Foothills
1 Forest
15 Mountain
3 Temple of Abandon
Creatures
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Avaricious Dragon
Spells
1 Chandra Pyromaster
4 Lightning Strike
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Dragon Fodder
3 Commune with Lava
1 Tormenting Voice
3 Wild Slash
2 Howl of the Horde
4 Atarka’s Command
3 Searing Blood
The new card I have added is Avaricious Dragon which is good in providing you gas in the late aside from the 4/4 flyer body. Sure it dies to most of the removal in the format, but they usually have to spend a turn doing that rather than casting a threat on the board. In that way, it will give the time to draw enough spells to burn them out.
My other card options from the upcoming set are Chandra’s parents (I forgot the name of the card) which looks like a new version of Siege-gang Commander, the new ‘flipping’ version of the Chandra planeswalker and the new X damage burn spell which is an X damage version of Searing Blood.
So far the previews of the last Core Set reveal interesting and flavorful card functionality but nothing has been that impressive to my taste. Let us see if that will change as more cards are being revealed in the coming weeks.
Until the next post.
