The Magic: the Gathering Iloilo community is currently in full support of continuously held weekly Friday Night Pioneer Magic. The main reason is that the competitive tournaments in Manila, both in local game stores and big events, are in the Pioneer format.

The pandemic has affected to card supply of the recent MTG sets, thus the Standard format became stagnant for almost two years. In effect, the popularity and support of the format for tournament events declined even further. This also moved the older formats such as Pioneer and Modern as the players’ choice. We then needed this initiative to have a regular weekly tournament for this format in support not only of the familiarization of the metagame decks but also looking at it as a sort of preparation in case a future major Pioneer tournament is announced in Manila.

For those who are interested to join, we are holding the weekly Pioneer FNM at Pro Rei’s Place every 6:00pm onwards. The registration is usually P100 to P150 and the prize packs along with some promo cards are added to the pool depending on the number of participants. If you have no existing deck to use yet, there is a recent release of the Pioneer Challenger decks that you order and play right away in a complete deck.
