Last Saturday, the MTG Iloilo community decided to hold a sort of a unified team Standard tournament. The only difference in the actual ruling is that the card copies allowed are more than the playset for the team. That means a team can have three Oko-based decks and it will be valid. Though it can become a subject to abuse, it was a good thing that no team in the event did that.
There were 8 eight teams in attendance and our card pool was one of them. Each team requires registration of P400 and so the sumptuous prizes at stake were expected.
My teammates were Ericson and Noynoy and decided to pilot the Rakdos Sacrifice deck with the list based on the Top 8 of Magic Fest Lyon. Ericson played Blue-White Control while Noynoy was on Sultai Food. Unfortunately, I faced control decks in all three rounds and lost all of them. That is because of main deck cards that are already brick in the matchup. Game 1 is a bonus to them I had to hope for my sideboard to work. I had some discard spells but my draws were not enough to pressure their life total. I could not draw my combo cards in my opening and had awkward late game top decks on Witch’s Oven with the familiar already long dead in the graveyard. Anywho, our Oko line is winning most of its games while our control deck seems to have a huge flooding problem. The result: zero wins.
Meanwhile, the Top teams had Fires of Invention, Oko Food and Gruul aggro in their lineup. After three rounds of gameplay. The Top 3 teams are the following:
