Here is another deck tech blog post for Magic Origins Standard. As for this archetype, I revived an old strategy when Magic 2015 was first released. I nicknamed it as the ‘Take 5’ tech which revolved around Ensoul Artifact and Shrapnel Blast. Here is the Magic Origins Standard version of the list:
Creatures
3 Chief of the Foundry
4 Bonded Construct
4 Pia and Kiran Nalaar
4 Faerie Miscreant
4 Thopter Engineer
4 Ornithopter
Spells
2 Springleaf Drum
4 Ensoul Artifact
3 Military Intelligence
4 Shrapnel Blast
4 Ghostfire Blade
Lands
4 Darksteel Citadel
1 Foundry of the Consuls
3 Island
4 Mountain
4 Shivan Reef
4 Temple of Epiphany
The card-by-card breakdown of this list:
Ensoul Artifact, Shrapnel Blast – the ‘Take 5’ core components of the deck. Ensoul’s second turn aggression is powered by one mana cost artifacts in the form of Ghostfire Blade, Ornithopter, Springleaf Drum and the land Darksteel Citadel. Shrapnel Blast condition is always met with lots of artifact and Thopter generator in the deck.
Bonded Construct, Ornithopter, Faerie Miscreant – this is our early aggro package. I had doubts with the construct because of the attack restrictions but I think with the twelve one-drops, it can still be fulfilled as early as turn two.
I have chosen the new Faerie flyer than the usual Siren and Lurker because of the benefits when you draw it in multiples. Siren is weak against decks with Dromoka’s Command and the Lurker’s Megamorph just shines in the late game.
Thopter Engineer, Pia and Kiran Nalaar – these cards are your midgame aggro plan if ever the first wave gets answered. The engineer gets your Artifact creatures haste and it makes the damage dealing more efficient until you finish with a Blast on the dome or via Nalaar’s shock damage.
Chief of the Foundry – a solid three-drop which can power all your other artifact critters. I might switch Thopter Engineer for a fourth copy of this card for as drawing multiples gives you at least two 3/4 beaters.
Military Intelligence – this is the preferred card than Bident of Thassa in the recent builds because it is cheaper to cast and is more efficient. I saw its power in Rino’s Mono Blue Ensoul Devotion build and I made sure that it gets a spot in the deck.
Foundry of the Consuls – this is another of the Thopter source and a great late game card generating flyers for the final damage or Shrapnel Blast fodder.
The other cards that I’ve considered in the deck are Thopter Spy Network, Abbot of Keral Keep, Artificer’s Epiphany and Whirler Rogue. The network and card drawer looks to fit more on the sideboard versus midrange and control decks.

That is wrap on this Standard deck tech, until the next post.
