Happy Friday all. Its been a while since my last quality post because of a messed mind set. Maybe its an effect of the awesomeness of card previews this week which confused me on which one to write first. Anyway, I better do this first before I loss the momentum.
The next prediction I will make on the post Zendikar decks in Standard would be the new breed of a tribe deck or rather a creature sub class. Yes, I’m talking about Zendikar’s Ally creatures. Since Zendikar’s theme focused on treasures, quests, and traps, these class of citizens in Zendikar adds up as an ally or allies to help in your adventures and achieving them. Lets take a look at a few Ally class creatures spoiled so far.
Kazandu Blademaster – this Human Soldier Ally is the best two drop so far in the Ally class. It acts as a pseudo-White Knight and gets bigger for every other Ally you play.
Kabira Evangel – this Cleric Ally can be a support if you go for an alpha strike against a mono color opponent. Its much better played as a follow up for a second turn Blademaster.
Bala Ged Thief – the first spoiled Ally creature for black. His comes-into-the-battlefield Coercion ability is impressive but its too dependent. Plus the high cost of four mana makes me think twice of playing this on main board.
Kazuul Warlord – Red’s first Ally creature spoiled. He’s too costly to play for an aggro deck and its pretty strange for a Warrior to give pump counters. If this can get good red Allies then probably it will see play.
Murasa Pyromancer – For six mana you get to ping some creatures with this pyromancer Ally but I’d rather spent it on burn spells. Still playable in limited though if you managed to pick alot of Allies.
Oran-Rief Survivalist – He could fill up the two-drops slot in your deck together with the blademaster. A Green White Ally deck would look good.
Sea Gate Loremaster – Blue’s Ally class creatures would mostly be composed of Merfolks. A five mana card drawer is good in Limited but I doubt if it will be in Standard.
Turntimber Ranger – the best Ally so far is offered by Green via this Elf Ally. Not only that you gain board advantage with a wolf token for each ally played but also you this guy bigger to lead on beating your opponent.
Still a half more to go for the Zendikar spoiler to be complete so I’d expect to see more playable Allies to use. My conclusion for a good Ally deck will go with White and Green or White and Red. I personally favor Red to have more good Allies but I think they only offer the best Goblin guides. Lol. (that was based on the latest mtg webcomic) 😀
These will be all for now. I’ll come up with the decklist once the set is complete. For the meantime, let me hear your thoughts on the impact of the Allies in the future Standard. Hit the comments and see ya on the next post. 🙂
