Rakdos Re-Born of the Gods

Rakdos Machinehead Born of the Gods
The printing of the God Mogis in Born of the Gods got me an idea of the potential of Rakdos Midrange in the Standard metagame. I’ve recalled that I’ve played before a Demon and Dragons deck (one that was short from top 8’ing PT Theros) and this time, we will go with the aggressive but with late game plan approach.

Here is a list that I’ve referenced from a recent Standard Trial tournament in Magic-League.

Standard

Lands
5 Swamp
6 Mountain
2 Rakdos Guildgate
3 Mutavault
4 Temple of Malice
4 Blood Crypt

Creatures
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Pack Rat
2 Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch
3 Stormbreath Dragon
2 Mogis, God of Slaughter
4 Chandra’s Phoenix
4 Spike Jester

Spells
1 Bile Blight
1 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Dreadbore
4 Lightning Strike
3 Magma Jet
1 Mizzium Mortars
1 Underworld Connections

Their list didn’t include Mogis but I’ve decided that he is a good four drop and a clock that should not be ignored. A few of my card choices (Chandra, Pyromaster & Underworld Connections) help in a way to at least get the God devotion online.

The main core is sort of an aggro-burn deck as most of the critters have haste. Pack Rat in the list though might be a tricky play setup. It is good that you can throw Rat copies in exchange of late land draws, or irrelevant critters like drawing a late cackler. This also makes you not over commit on the board against control.

This deck got me interested to playtest in the next play session to make me familiarize with the strategy and play sequence. I will be posting soon some notes of the matchups so stay tuned for that one.

That is a wrap of the deck for now and until next post.
