The current prices of the top Standard decks has been very unfriendly to the new players of the format. You have allot a huge amount just to afford and complete a Tier 1 deck. As a result, you’ve just to settle for a budgeted or fetch-less version of a deck. Well, here is one deck suggestion:
Budget G/W Hardened Scales by Mark Ian Alloso
Standard
Creatures
3 Abzan Falconer
4 Ainok Guide
4 Avatar of the Resolute
2 Den Protector
4 Endless One
4 Managorger Hydra
4 Servant of the Scale
Spells
4 Dromoka’s Command
2 Feat of Resistance
4 Hardened Scales
1 Hunt the Weak
1 Stasis Snare
1 Valorous Stance
Lands
4 Blossoming Sands
2 Sandsteppe Citadel
2 Canopy Vista
9 Forest
5 Plains
The notable card with the prices are the following:
Avatar of the Resolute $1 x 4
Managorger Hydra $3 x 4
Den Protector $10 x 2
Endless One $1 x 4
Hardened Scales $3 x 4
Dromoka’s Command $7 x 4
Canopy Vista $6 x 2
Adding up all of these cards together with the rest of the list, it would total to 95 usd or around 3,800 pesos. That is about 80% less than the current average price of 600 usd of each popular Standard deck. That is huge savings right there.
Nearing four thousand pesos spent on the cards would look unreasonable for a regular employee here in the Philippines but hey, Magic aren’t a cheap hobby either. You can try saving at least 1000 a week and surely within a month, you can complete the deck. For extra budget, you can start buying Windswept Heath for the deck upgrade. These fetches’ value does not degrade over time and if needed, you can sell them at a higher price later on. Lands are a great investment, even in Magic.
I guess that is a wrap for this deck. For now we can’t have that drop-down price of a Standard deck because of the fetches, Vryn Jace and stuff, but maybe with the arrival of Shadows of Innistrad and Khans, Fate Reforged rotating out, we shall see Standard card prices dropping.
Until the next post.
