Standard Deck Feature: Naya Planeswalkers

Naya-Planeswalkers
On last weekend’s FNM and Saturday Standard tournament, I built and piloted a Naya version of planeswalkers or popularly known before as Super Friends. The list was referenced from a State Champion deck played Joshua Watts in Texas. The maindeck was copied card-by-card but I made changes on its sideboard list as I didn’t like the playset copies of Deicide.

Here is the deck:

24 LANDS
4 Temple Garden
4 Stomping Ground
4 Temple of Plenty
4 Sacred Foundry
3 Temple of Abandon
2 Plains
2 Temple of Triumph
1 Forest

20 CREATURES
4 Voice of Resurgence
4 Sylvan Caryatid
3 Trostani, Selesnya’s Voice
3 Purphoros, God of the Forge
2 Archangel of Thune
2 Manaweft Sliver
2 Scavenging Ooze

17 OTHER SPELLS
4 Mizzium Mortars
3 Xenagos, the Reveler
3 Elspeth, Sun’s Champion
3 Ajani, Mentor of Heroes
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Assemble the Legion

The deck at times start slow without the mana critters but it can establish defense pretty well with Voice of Resurgence and life gain in the late turns via Trostani, Ooze and Archangel of Thune. It went 2-2 at the FNM and 3-1 on Saturday Standard, with Mono Blue as somewhat its worst matchup.

Overall, I think the deck is a strong contender if given the metagame to be more of midrange decks. I will be exploring this archetype again soon after M15 goes in Standard.
