Standard Deck Tech: De-Sires of Affliction

So I’ve just thought of a possible discarder deck that works around Sire of Insanity from Dragon’s Maze. At first, it looked like a Jund Midrange deck without Farseeks and Thragtusks but focuses more on disrupting your opponents hand and let you resolve the demon.

Here is my first version of the deck.

BR De-Sires of Affliction by Mark Ian Alloso
Standard

Lands
14 Swamp
4 Blood Crypt
4 Dragonskull Summit
2 Stensia Bloodhall

Creatures
4 Blood Scrivener
2 Bloodgift Demon
4 Sire of Insanity
2 Olivia Voldaren

Spells
4 Liliana of the Veil
1 Chandra, the Firebrand
4 Shrieking Affliction
3 Tragic Slip
1 Staff of Nin
3 Mutilate
4 Searing Spear
2 Appetite for Brains
2 Duress

The deck is divided between controlling the hand and the board. I somewhat gave it more on creature kills because of aggro decks running rampant on the recent Standard metagame.

Searing Spears stops early aggression and Mutilate deals with the rest. Midrange decks might be a problem but we have Appetite for Brains and Liliana for them to deal with.

The ‘blood’ brothers, Bloodgift Demon and Blood Scrivener provide late game gas and combo a bit with Sire.

Chandra, the Firebrand is a bit odd in the list, but providing copies of discard spells and removals makes her worth.

Attacking with critters is plan B of the deck, as Shrieking Affliction is primarily the source of damage. It’s slow, though combined with Liliana going ultimate; your opponent will have little options to work with.

Sire of Insanity has shown its potential already with its place in Jund Midrange decks at the recent SCG tournament and I think there are other deck strategies fitted for it.

Is the deck yay or nay? Are there other options for the deck you’d like to share? Let me know via the comment box below.

Until next post.
