The first World Magic Cup Qualifiers will be on this coming Sunday, August 17, in Manila. As for the preparations, we had been playtesting the top decks from the Pro Tour and expecting that metagame of Blue White Control and Black White Midrange. For deck brewing part, I have come up with this version of Rabble Red with Black. That color option was chosen because of access to effective spot removals and Pack Rat. Here is my recent version of the deck:
Lands
4 Blood Crypt
4 Mana Confluence
3 Mutavault
6 Mountain
6 Swamp
Creatures
3 Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Pack Rat
4 Goblin Rabblemaster
4 Spike Jester
3 Gnarled Scarhide
3 Legion Loyalist
Spells
2 Dreadbore
2 Ultimate Price
4 Stoke the Flames
4 Lightning Strike
Sideboard
SB: 2 Skullcrack
SB: 4 Thoughtseize
SB: 2 Doom Blade
SB: 1 Whip of Erebos
SB: 1 Hero’s Downfall
SB: 1 Mizzium Mortars
SB: 2 Magma Spray
SB: 2 Anger of the Gods
Testing so far against control is very good as long as you are drawing your creatures and the right removals for opponent’s threats. Rabblemaster and the rat do a good job in letting you not to over commit into a Supreme Verdict and can end games quickly if left unchecked. The best opening of the deck would be:
Turn 1 Rakdos Cackler, unleash.
Turn 2 Spike Jester, attack.
Turn 3 Mutavault, Goblin Rabblemaster, create token, attack.
Turn 4 Legion Loyalist, Activate Mutavault, Attack for the win.
I am still tweaking the sideboard to counter Rabble Red’s aggression and also to cope up with the matchup versus Boros Burn. Your opinion of the decklist is pretty much very welcome so just hit the comments.
Until next post.
