We are counting the days until the release of Magic’s newest (or in my case, reminisce) set, Dominaria. The revealed cards so far are okay and exciting, given that a few old favorites are back i.e. Llanowar Elves.

I have pondered before the possible return of Goblins in the format and lined up a few notables. This time, I am looking for the build archetype that is a recent Standard version of Izzet Blitz.

By definition, Izzet (Blue/Red) Blitz is a tempo and burn deck that is filled with cheap Prowess critters backed up by counterspells and cheap instant damage spells. Now looking at the Dominaria spoilers list, I have found two cards that will possibly support the build.

The first card that came to mind is Baral, Chief of Compliance. He is by chance a Wizard so the discount bonus will be fulfilled. I have looked for other potential Wizards from the Standard-legal sets but the only other candidate was Soul-scar Mage. I may yet hope that Dominaria can provide us with more of that creature type. Anyhow, here below is the first version of the deck:
